Way OT, but . . .

does anyone know anything about record albums from '60s to '70s? Just inherited about 700 from my aunt's dead boyfriend.

Many are factory sealed.

Tell me to screw myself if this is the wrong place to ask!

Just curious.

There is quite a market for pristine record albums. There are collectors of them, as with cards, stamps and coins. I believe there is a price guide also. The Antiques Roadshow has showed some rare albums and the prices they bring. nice pick up. Joe

Why did you put the Incugator on the bottom?

And, you said it's OT - it's not spam - we all like you.

    But, now - I'm clueless.

My first question tho - any Beatles? What is the feel of the albums? Rock? Dean Martin? Jerry Vale?

The best shot will be if you have Beatles - even if not first print - if mint and still packaged - a collector might get excited.

You know there was a record forum but no one ever posted.

One guy posted as a joke - "I came here to just sit and rest"

How about a list? I would guess anything mint and packaged is a winner to a collector.
I'm interested in Wayne Newton and Jerry Vale! image

The European versions of a few of the early Beatles albums can sell for $1500 or more if they are in good condition.

lemmie know what you picked up. I have literally 1000's of old albums. Nearly every rock, blues and jazz from 60-85. Some are worth a pile, others not much at all. Either way the cover artwork and the analog sound cant be beat in my humble opinion.

My only advice is, don't sell them at a garage sale. I had my first and only garage sale last week and 20 people asked for them even though they weren't out on the driveway. I figure with that interest they have to have some value.

Some do Zef. I actually found one that had recorded people on some of the first tests of LSD. HILARIOUS!! Now of course, spin in backwards and satan is consuming you....lol. I pick them up because I own a few vinyl players and I figure I might as well have some spins to put on.

BTW...Any "git some" music(IE: Pendergrass, Green, etc. lmk if you have any Jersey)

Gave most of my albums to my nephew last decade. He's the music archiver in our family.

Kept a few cool ones :
The Velvet Underground and Nico with the peel off banana, and a few other fun ones,
like the Rolling Stones "Their Satanic Majesties Request" original 3-D cover with the faces of the Beatles hidden in it.

There must be many websites that list which albums are still valuable ...

If most are popular artists on modern popular labels, switch em over to 8 track and enjoy. The only top paying albums are limited pressings and early releases on obscure labels........

he has 700 of them.. if he makes just $3 on each one, that's over $2k.. then figure in an easy $1 or $2 you can make PER ALBUM on shipping, and it's up near $3,000.. and they'll probably go for a heck of a lot more than that.. sell them individually on ebay, with good photos and tell of the pristine condition and how you acquired them.. you'll make a fortune.. don't take any bad advice. if he gets just $5 per album, he could clear nearly $5000.. and i would bet more than that.... he should just walk away from that??

"Pristine Vintage Record Collection from my aunt's dead boyfriend's attic" replace record with sports cards and we would all rip and red flag the auction to bits. Find someone who is seriously in the know about these. Buying a price guide for something you have very limited knowledge of is usually pretty useless. "This price guide lists this 1981 Topps Mike Schmidt for $4 so I should get atleast that for it on ebay." Take them to someone who collects and deals in these heavily and possibly consign them to sell them online or outright. Just like when we see someone who sells records start listing sports cards we will almost always question their knowledge of condition, variation, etc. Just my 2 cents.

yes, and then watch what they do.. don't let them lowball the whole collection and make all the money that should be yours!

Do you have the soundtrack to The Caine Mutiny? That's super-valuable.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • Thanks for the valuable input, guys.

    Wasn't expecting that much.

Problem lies with the fact that these albums are in MN at my parents' house and I am in VA. Just acquired them last weekend while visiting.

Will probably buy one way ticket, rent a car, and drive them back!

I teach so my summer's are pretty much wide open.

Will try to keep any interested parties posted.

Hope this thread does not draw the dreaded SPAM can!

    Thanks again.

    Rick

  • If there are any TV show albums, I will be interested. i.e. Batman, Green Hornet, Munsters, even Alvin & the Chipmunks do Beatle hits is cool

    Send me a PM

If you have any Kiss albums please let me know.

Oh how I miss the sound of the needle hiss hitting the record! image
    Looking for Carl Willey items.
  • Animalize was the only KISS album I found. Ticks me off because I'd like to frame their first three - five albums!
  • I have the 3d satanic magesties request album as well. I didn't know the beatles were hidden on it though.. hmm... I'll have to look for them. There is another relation to the beatles and this album too... did you know that the same photographer took the photo for the stones' album as well as the beatles' sgt. peppers? The stones' "Satanic magesties request" was supposed to be their comeback to Sgt. Peppers as well. Didn't quite make it as far though.
