In my Krause, under the listing for KM 8 (1898 1 Peso) is:
Note: Similar "Souvenir Pesos" dated 1897 are listed in UNUSUAL WORLD COINS, 3rd Edition, Krause Publications.

Mintage is reportedly "4,286". There is a similar version with more closely spaced date with a mintage of "828".

There's also one with the stars on either side of the date higher (mintage 4,856)

All three pieces exist in Proof and in Bronze proof.

Surprisingly many of these exhibit light wear.
