Why does the US Mint refuse to tell anyone...

the remaining quantity of items they are selling? Just curious. Somehow, CoinWorld can find out but not hte average collector.

    If there is some item you are interested in you can ask your congressional office to ask and they will get you the answer. If its for a currently offered popular item the numbers may be a little dated by the time you get them.

    I used this approach to find out exactly how many 2005 silver proof sets and westward journey sets were let when sales stopped in Dec. 2005.

    They've learned that they might as well go ahead and answer Coin Worlds requests for information. A while back they were stonewalling them as well, and Coin World simply started filing FOIA requests on every question. That forced the mint to have to jump through a lot of extra hoops so in the end they just found it easier to answer their informal requests for information.

    If you really want the information you can file ROIA requests as well, but by the time you get the answers they will have already been printed in Coin World.
