free? addage is true, it Aint..RE: SCD trial 1 & done?

Just thought I'd update after speaking with them on the phone. I realize many don't like SCD, but I do and got a sub for my brother(Or tried..lol) guess I fork out the $35. Sure wish the SMR would add some meat to their monthly publiucation(Heck this board summarized every month would make a great read!)

In Short...The companies who offered the sub's cancelled their order with SCD leaving the requestors high & dry! Oh well... free isn't really free, I knew better.

They-Scd were very cordial and offered some clarification. They said every "Offer" or most anyway, except their inhouse trials, are handled through an agency or secondary marketing source, and they(SCD) really have no way to remedy the situations.

The latest with freebiz, and free??offers seems like nothing more than a ruse for data collection . Glad I used a bunk email addy, and haven't submitted for anymore mags through them.

And the problem is that SCD isn't like eating potato chips...

where ya eat one and can't stop...

If this was a ploy to 'hook' a few - better be adding something special - like free graded or something.

  • Agreed, Mike.

I called to find out what happened because Imho SCD can't really handle a black-eye from pulling stunts like that.

    I agree

I've been one of the big supporters of SCD here and this is very disappointing.

esp. since our contact information has already been sold many times over from what we provided to SCD.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • I understand everyone's frustrations, however, I know many of the SCD crew and believe me when I tell you... Those people are some of the most classy individuals you will ever find in this hobby.

Their magazine isn't what it used to be... No kidding. Their publication used to be filled with ads. Now with the Internet advertisers have little reason to list ads in SCD.

There are still good articles and for under a dollar an issue, who can complain? Seriously, if you pull one bit of good info out of each copy, IMO it is worth it.

    god bless!

I hear ya Jesse and agree.

I have started a few threads and surveys asking people how they felt. I'm beginning to think that they need to consider "on-line" subscriptions which will save them a boatload in shipping and stuff - they can open archives to the consumers.

It would be similar to the PSA "Insider" which I save in my mailbox file.
