My turn to complain about a shipping cost

I normally don't complain about a shipping because I factor that into my bidding. For example, last year I got a 1957 Aaron PSA 6 and paid $20. I just bid $20 less than I normally would. But in a very recent auction, I won (7) 1957 PSA 7 from someone and he did not explicitly stated anything about combined shipping (just $4.something per card). After winning 7 auctions from him, I asked him (nicely) about combined shipping. He came back $18 to ship 7 card first class. I fully believe that he looked at what how cheaply I won some of his cards (including a PSA 7 for under $5, which never happened before) and decided to make up some of it in shipping. I can't really complain about it because he did not state that he would combine shipping. I should be grateful.

  • well i'm glad you worked that out.

  • I hated it when sellers don't state if they do or don't.

Good news is you got alot of nice cards and the total with shipping puts them right around the going rate.

  • I think both you and the seller learned a lesson in this case

1)The seller should be smart enough to protect his interest by starting his auctions with the first bid equaling the minimum amount he is comfortable selling his card at.

2)The buyer should be smart enough to ask questions before the auction ends.

With this said, I think beleive the buyer got the better end of this deal (by far).

You got a good deal on the cards.

It is true that you cannot complain because
you did not ask about "combined shipping" b4.
But, if I were the buyer, the guy would never
see any more of my money.

As Rich says, sellers need to get it straight in
their heads what they want for the item b4 they
list it; and NOT try to make up for "losses" after
    the sale.

The seven cards can be safely packed and mailed Priority
with Delivery Confirmation and minimum insurance for
    less than $6.00.

    I hear ya Steve.

    Eyes wide open.

One time I only won a single lot at the toppsvault for 9.95.

They charge 7$ for shipping but you can combine lots from the SAME day only. I knew all this.

But, when I thought about it...hmmm

I told my wife: "I'm an idiot - I just paid a 70% premium on my purchase!"

My wife told me: "don't worry dear, you were an idiot way before that."

  • storm is right... it's tempting as a seller to try to recoup some of your loss that way, but you simply can't do it, at least not if you expect to have a good reputation or any repeat buyers. seller loses this one IMO. there is never an acceptable time to rape someone on shipping charges.

I hear you guys, in the 300+ cards I have purchased off of eBay, this was the first time I had something like this happen to me. I had one seller recently stated that his shipping was $4.05 for priority mail and I won, I think 2 other cards that same night, and he did not add any more for shipping. I got spoiled I guess but lesson learned.

By the way, you guys are quick sleuths. I did not link to the auction(s) because I didn't want to get a neg (in the unlikely event he saw me complaining here). But insomuch I know in total I got a good deal, it's still the principle of the thing.

Buc, I had a guy do the same thing to me a few months back(maybe the same guy). I came on the board here to rant about it. Someone told me to give the guy a different address for each item(Someone you are related to or a friend). Have the guy ship to all different addresses. Although, I suppose you would have to pay some other way than besides Pay -pal because of the confirmed address thing. Make the schmo work for it !

i had a seller do me the same way what i did is pay separate for each item. i waited a day or 2 in between payments. i also state i do accept combined shipping, i will leave negative feedback for shipping fraud.

each item came very well packed, a package for each card 7 in total. i see his auctions now and he combines shipping. but also i ask for combined shipping.

it was a learning experience for both of us.
  • it's still a good deal... i'd just let it go and move on to the next round... not worth the stress for what, $10-$15 in shipping fees? let it go, life's too short.
