Has anyone here sent in a bulk submission to PCGS?

I have a bunch of wheats I'd like to send and was told by my dealer that PCGS does bulk submissions for a much cheaper rate but that one is limited by the number of dates and it needs to be a minimum number of coins. Can anyone give more info?

I asked the same question a couple of year back and here's the reply that I got (compliments of Boom). I don't know if things have changed SINCE, so you might want to call PCGS customer service and double check it's accuracy:

    HOW TO SUBMIT FOR BULKS:

    1. YOU NEED A MINIMUM OF 100 COINS PER INVOICE.
    2. NO MORE THAN 4 DIFFERENT DATES, DENOM, & MINT MARK.
    3. YOU NEED ONE MINIMUM GRADE FOR YOUR COINS.
    4. IF 60% OF YOUR COINS DO NOT MEET YOUR MINIMUM GRADE, A $5 REJECT FEE WILL BE PUT ON YOUR ORDER.
THAT MEANS THAT $5 WILL BE CHARGED FOR EVERY COIN IN THE ORDER. THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE GRADER STILL TOOK TIME TO LOOK AT EVERY COIN.

    5. NOW IF 60% OF YOUR COINS DO MAKE YOUR MINIMUM GRADE, THE MINIMUM CHARGE OF A COIN IS $8.
THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT WILL BE $8 FOR EVERY COIN. THE PRICES IN bulk DEPEND ON THE GRADE OF THE COIN AND WHAT KIND OF A COIN IT IS.

    6. NOW THE 60% THAT DID MAKE YOUR MINIMUM GRADE, THOSE COINS WILL BE THE ONLY ONES THAT WILL BE CHARGED. THE ONES THAT DID NOT MAKE IT, NO CHARGE WILL BE PUT ON THOSE COINS.

    7. YOU NEED TO BE A DEALER OR A COLLECTOR CLUB MEMBER IN ORDER TO SUBMIT bulk.
    8. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE GIVE ME A CALL.

**** WHEN YOU SHIP THE COINS, CAN YOU PLEASE PUT ATTN: bulk ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX. THANK YOU

Interesting.....so, the price is AT LEAST $8/coin but may be higher depending on the GRADE and what type it is?????

Would be interesting to see the 'sliding scale' of fees for the grade of the coin......

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Lincolns is $10 for ms66's, and a whopping $25 for ms67's. I would like to send the ms67's regular modern service ($14), except they just don't grade ms67 that way.
  • I just sent in close to 100 coins various years. All 66/67 ish. I will be very disappointed if I dont get at least some 67's.
These went modern, economy and economy mint error.
  • thanks gain for the info. lincolnsrule i sent you a private message. thanks

What is the current turnaround time for a bulk submission of Lincoln Memorial Cents or clad quarters?

I thought that was just for Pre 64's. I have 300 or 400 Lincolns in right now, I think , heck I can't remember, usual suspects 68 PDS's and 06's.

One thing about PCGS don't expect anything image I always have a handful of regrades to send in after a bulk.
  • Nope, that's pre 1982. For 1983-date it's $8 for ms66's, $10 for ms67's and ms68's and something like $15 for ms69's.

Rcjes... no not sliders, solid no doubters...

I searched a sealed bag of 100 awesome rolls of 81-d cents... Best 8 coins first went via modern service

  • Oh, turn around time is anything from 3 weeks to 5 months. Take a random guess.

Do bulk submissions need to be individually put into the flips like a regular order?
    Thanks
  • They can be put in individual flips or sent in tubes. I asked recently if I could do a combo of both and they said sure. I also asked to make sure they won't just take my flipped coins and put them in the tubes, and they said to make a note on the submission form saying to not do that.

No, they actually prefer that they are in coin tubes.

  • Very useful thread. I too have been debating doing several submissions to PCGS in the near future. I have several coins I would like to send in and I was thinking about bulk but this thread just about puts the nail in the coffin. Bulk it is.

    Keep it coming.

  • after reading these posts i think going to send in my accumulation of lincolns to PCGS for bulk grading. i have some real nice wheats from the 40s and 50s that i could use to hopefully start a registry set in high mint state condition. a couple of them i believe are ms-67s but i've never certified an ms-67 at PCGS. from what i read here it seems to be hard, but sending them in bulk is a cheaper ay to find out.
  • Something does not seem right here......submit a large number of coins pay less get better grades.......ship a few of the same coins, pay more for grading and get worse grades. Now I see why there are coins in PCGS holders that have higher grades than mine but look much worse than mine.

Exactly what i was thinking. I smell something funny here. Unless I'm not reading this thread correctly, for bulk submissions... the higher the grade the more you pay. Hmmm.

I wonder, do the graders get comission on bulk submissions?

bummer, I have boughten coins that were graded bulk and used as comparison for my grading set

no wonder I can't repeat the grades

there goes the HRH saying of ownership adds a couple points

I wonder if I crack out my bulk and submit regular or economy, if they would lose a couple pointsimage
