Grades just popped for HOFer single-signed baseballs...

Hey guys just thought I would share my results for whomever might be interested in them. I sent in 8 single signed baseballs for grading and authenticating. Overall I was a little dissapointed in the results, I thought for sure that I would have at least a few mint 9's total but they seem fair to me. If anyone is interested in any of these signed baseballs, they are all for sale and I can provide as much information as needed on each of them as soon as I get them back from PSA/DNA.

At least ya know they're all real.

Are you planning to put them up on ebay?

I hope that the grade lower than 9 doesn't affect the final hammer?

If ya get the time, can ya scan the cube and compare an 8 with an 8.5?

How did they actually distinguish .5?

Congratulations on a lot of great autos!

They would have done it with cards if they could do it all over again, and in fact the actually considered switching to a .5 system a couple years ago.

Boo, Do you happen to know the reason they didnt change to the 1/2 point system? Seems like somewhere down the road this would be another good source of income for Psa, as I think there would be thousands of resubmits looking for a 1/2 point bump in the grade.

There was a discussion on half grades a few months back.

I remember it cause there was a double clutch on the thread.

  • Hey guys, the reason that some of those balls got 1/2 grades (.5) is because when PSA/DNA grades a baseball they grade 2 different things. They grade the actual signature itself for clarity, centering on the ball, boldness of signature, etc. and then they also assign a grade for the condition of the ball. But the total grade for the ball is a combination of both and I think they give more weight to the signature than the ball condition grade. So for example if your ball gets a 9 for signature and a 6 for ball condition then it would receive a grade of 7.5 overall. I also believe that they will add a + designation to a ball that is high-end for that grade. So you could have a 7.5+ overall grade. It's all kind-off confusing to me.

And Mike, most or all of these baseballs will be appearing on ebay unless anyone is interested in them from this board and then we can just skip all the mess and deal from here.

  • They give the signature and the ball equal weight. I have a Mantle ball with a
    sig. grade of 9
    Ball grade of 7
    overall grade 8
