Maundy newp

Always wanted a set. These came with a little red box - very cute.

I just wish I could take better pics. Any tips on how to bring out the best of these little ones?

What's the date? I can't image these coins at all.

  • 1897 - I just posted the rev pic above.

There's a lot of pretty toning, but indoors or outdoors I just can't get the light right no matter what. I guess I should take them out of the flip for one thing...

Dig the obverse toning on the 3d!!
  • I'm still working on my photo technique. Used a 100W soft white bulb right next to the camera. This worked better on RD copper than on toned silver. Trying to figure out how to show toning and proof fields, both of which are stunning on all four, but for now I guess you have to take my word for it. Best results were accidental.

  • If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost?

    Thanks!
    Lovely set!

  • Yes - I normally use the phrase 'lovely set' in other circumstances but I'll apply it here as well.

I paid $165 for it at the Bellaire show. I am pretty ignorant of Darkside values, so have no idea if I got a fair deal. It was sort of an impulse thing.
