4 Important US Philippine Coins for sale on eBay
![Justhavingfun](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/authoricons/myicon.jpg)
I have these coins already, so I'm not in the market, otherwise I wouldn't be letting you know. But if you collect US Philippines, there are some nice yummies up there on eBay right now.
-- The most important is a 1918-S 5 centavo Mule, graded XF45 by PCGS. This is the rarest coin in the series, even harder in this grade than the equally famous 1906-S peso.
I haven't seen the coin, but the asking price is $3,750 -- which seems anything but extravagant to me. I don't know the seller.
-- Then there's a 1917-S centavo in MS65 red, PCGS. Up until a few months ago, this coin would have been rare in red but apparently the seller came into a small hoard of them and has been releasing them one or two at a time. I bought a few and I was wasn't estatic about the redness. I thought PCGS was a tad generous on it, but the price was right. And is, again ... only $465.
-- Then bright young Filipina, who used to post here (but quit because PCGS let some creep harass her with obscene tagalog posts), is selling some coins to finance her new-born baby. She's become a good friend of mine and has two nice coins up for sale. One is a 1904 10 centavo, MS64, PCGS. Not especially rare but a nice type 1 ten centavo for a type set. Good price: currently only $81.01
-- The other is not really a US-Philippine coin but is often collected with them because it was minted in the US. That's the 1945-S Douglas MacArthur 50 centavo, doubled die obverse. Graded MS65 by ANACS. The ordinary 1945-S is common, and a coin in this condition is probably nothing more than a $30 to $50 coin. But the doubled-die obverse is rare and if you collect this series, it's a nice find in this condition.
Best wishes from Manila, where I'll be for another week or two.

I believe you mean 1947-S, sir
Regardless, these MacArthur coins are steadily increasing in popularity. A member of this forum recently sold the peso for over $80 in 65. Soon there will be no more survivors from that greatest generation who fought side by side with Ole Mac in the Pacific. A great coin with lots of history.
I'm gonna take a look at those coins you mentioned now!
These two are really nice in hand with a better strike:
Shep
Nice Shep! Here's mine. A bit of rainbow toning.

The current pops for the 1917-s centavo in RD are:
MS64 - 8
MS65 - 10
MS66 - 4
If you did not get the 66RDs, then they were either there or are still on the "shelf".

Thanks for the pop figures on the 1917'S Centavo. My guesstimate is that this guy made about half of them. And the price has held up remarkably well, a sign of the strength of the US Philippines.
Dear Mojoman:

Why don't you go to BYF's auction site for the 1947-S and look at the pictures she took to show the doubling. I can't tell from your photo whether or not your coin is one of the doubled die obverses, but there sure are hints of it. You may have gotten really lucky when you won that coin from 1Jester.

Where do you get the pop figures from?
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

Dear JHF,
I finally found the time to take a closeup of my coin, due to the weak strike it's very hard to determine any doubling and I'm not familar with these series also. However, I think there could be doubling:
I will be in Manila next month & was wondering if anyone can reccomend any good coin shops. When I was in Manila a few months ago I found a couple coin dealers at the Green Tree Market ?(I am not sure of the name, but its the big market where all ther tourists go) downtown, but the selection was pretty limited. I am also going to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) for a few days & wonder if anyone can reccomend any coin shops there.
Thanks for your help!

You probably mean "Green Hills". You can also try World Treasures on the top floor of Mega Mall in Madayluyong and there are a couple of antique stores near or on Mabini St in the Malate area (near Roxas Blvd on Manila Bay). All of these will carry mostly junk. For higher quality coins, you can attend the local auctions, one on Aug 6 and another on Aug 27. Feel free to PM me for details. Safe travels.
Yes, definitely doubling. Probably towards the end of the die life, because it's not as strong as on the few others I've seen. But even so, this increases the value of your coin considerably much. If I remember correctly, the 47-S is a $15 coin normally. Bright Young Filipina, when she recently auctioned off a 47-S double die, got more than $60, i.e., more than 4 times as much. And actually, I was surprised that it didn't go for more. I bought 20 of these coins in MS 65 a while ago (as part of a bigger deal), and not a one was a double-die. So it's at least scarce, and an interesting variety.
Congratulations,
Just Having Fun.
I'm not sure what you're looking for in the US Philippines; business strikes or proofs ... raw or certified ... used or pristine. But if you're looking for raw, Mr. Filam's recommendations are right on the spot. World Treasures in the MegaMall (attorney Escano), Green Hills (Jun Quatero), and a series of shops on Mabini Street.
If you're looking for certified coins, Tainohenka, Bright Young Filipina, and Mr. Filam have the best selections by far, and I'm sure at least the first two will be happy to meet with you. You can get them by PMing them or if you don't get an answer, PM me with the dates you'll be in town and e-address. I'm close friends with the two of them and if you can't reach them, I'll contact them for you.
Warm regards,
