Those Darn Coin Books

Before I drop $53.55 for the two new world coin books has anyone seen them cheaper than Amazon?

Also is either book worth it, lately the books leave out tons of post 2000 coins and would so angry if I bought the book and they have only a few actual mintages.

I am very happy that KP has decided to separate the 20th and 21st centuries.

For me, the 20th Century book would be useful, especialy given the tremendous change in valuations since the 2002 book, the latest edition I have. I think that given only six years of mintages in the 21st century, it is questionable that it is worth the nearly $20 it costs. Furthermore, it is apt to list only through 2005 at best and probably only through 2004.

It is interesting that we will still call these books "Krause" even though his name no longer graces the editing credits.

    Man,

I have always found Vernon.coin @ EBAY to have some of the best prices on these books. I looked and do not see the new catalogs listed at their eBay store yet but would be surprized if their price is not better than Amazon.

For strictly retail purchasing (not e-bilge) Amazon has the lowest prices I've found.

I think it has more to do with the numbering system. The Krause numbers were developed by Chester Krause, no matter who edits the revised editions. Albert Pick's name was removed from the currency catalogs years ago, but the numbering system still bears his name.

Charlton. Named for the original author/compiler/editor, J.E. Charlton.

I thought after they changed the logo to KP that eventually they are going to phase out Krause all together. At least 2 years ago they still had KRAUSE on the cover.

  • I doubt they would do it, but it would make sense for Krause to put all Euro coins in the 2001 + catalog
