86 donruss Wax Rip, Highlights.............

I had a blast bustin this 86 Donruss Box tonight ! I had no high expectations and hadnt really thought about sending any in for grading. I havent opened any 86 Donruss since I was 16 years old back in 86, I thought it was a beautiful set then and still do. Here are some highlights of the rip !

Those are sweet cards! I have always liked that set too. The 84s and 86s are the best looking sets Donruss made IMO.

    Thanks, Downtown !

Hey ! Does anyone know if Factory sets produce the best quality cards from this year like an 85 or 87 Donruss ? Or racks ? Although the borders arent black they are a dark blue with black pinstripes, and if anything like the 85's and 87's chipping could be minimal in a factory set. Anyone have any experience bustin these ??

Those '86s are toughies for sure!

That blue chips easily and really show up. Almost as much as the black bordered cards.

First off, thanx for all the scans - I have never ripped 86D - I've enjoyed the show.

I like the Ryan card - they always seem to find great action shots.

I gave my son an 87D factory set and they came in cello packages.

This caused some of the cards to be crushed by the packaging process.

I bought it for him for Christmas and he couldn't wait to rip it. Worse tho was the 82D factory set - loads of OCs and dinged corners.

But, once you put them in a binder...they look great!

Mike, Thanks for the Info, I have been reading some past threads about 87 Donruss and thought I read somewhere that finding "gem" cards was almost impossible in anything but a factory set. I am going to try some 86 Donruss racks and a factory set next.
I may have found my newest obsession "86 Donruss"

I don't doubt that you will find gems in them.

I just remember that the cellos were packed tight - and the card on the top was slightly crushed on one corner - my guess is from the cello pack process?

I opened a case of 87 Donruss racks several years back and pulled 2 Gem Mint Maddux. This was back when people only graded the big RCs, so not sure how many others would have received a 10 grade.

Tennessee - great scans - did you get any Cansecos? I just ripped a box and a half of 86s and came up 3 Cansakes and a couple of Clemens, etc. I have a factory case of sets; they too were boxed in cello wrapped lots and I've only opened one to mount in a binder 20 years ago when I got them.

I didnt get any Cansecos at all, Which kinda bummed me out because that is one of my favorite cards. I got two O'neills though. Plus a few other stars that wernt centered well enough to scan(Gwynn,Rose,Dykstra rc, seaver etc...)
