You're right, man. I'm pretty ambivalent about the B's, but the franchise's decisionmaking in recent years has probably elicited a hex that might end up rivaling the Curse of the Bambino.
And, yeah, the NHL has far and away the best trophies in sport.
You can blame Mike O'Connell and Harry Sinden, but the order to trade Thornton had to come from the top, C. Montgomery Burns (see below), er, Jeremy Jacobs who made his money distributing that high fat, no taste, overpriced crap we consume at sporting events and amusement parks.
This is the offical portrait from the Bruins site. Either Mr Jacobs hasn't had a whole lot of practice smiling, or he just got a glimpse of that picture of Thornton I posted.
Thanks Mr J for all you've done for the Sharks. Oh yeah, Johnathan Cheechoo sends his best wishes too!
According to all reports OC made the trade on his own. I know that sounds almost impossible to believe but Harry does seem to be less and less involved in all of the transactions. Harry was known for making astute trades not dumb ones. OC was trying to save his job and clearly this deal cost him his job.
It is nice to see that Joe did win the MVP and Jagr won the award voted by the players. The NHL did a nice job recovering from the lockout.
Sure would be nice to see an L.A. King player with a trophy like that....Nice that you guys can at least discuss pros and cons of ownership for your favorite teams....Here in L.A. the owners are COMPLETE IDIOTS!! What a drag! Used to be, people would give away their Clipper tickets cuz they were so bad. My how times have changed! Now Clipper tix cost $ and you can use your leftover Kings tix to wipe bugs off the windshield, or as a crumb scraper, or a book mark, paint mixer....Maybe Rogie Vachon could un-retire.....
I agree, I enjoyed watching San Jose during the playoffs. I wrote an email to the Bruins telling them I would no longer waste any of my money on seeng them play. I recieved a response telling me that this is the direction the team felt it needed to go in.
Come on Bruins fans, not like you got Jim Fahey and a fifth round pick in the deal. You were in need of a rebuild (IMO), and you got a nice start with Stuart and Sturm, and a throw in who is a decent player. Don't forget you got Boyes from San Jose, and all they got was, well I forgot who they got.
Sure I think that Sj got the better end here, but the future looks OK just based on what was sent to Boston from SJ
Always buying 1984 Ralston Purina PSA 9s and 10s I NEED 19,21, and 29!!!
Mar 9, 2004: In a three-way deal: San Jose Sharks traded Brad Boyes to the Boston Bruins for Jeff Jillson; Then, San Jose Sharks traded Jeff Jillson and a 9th round selection to the Buffalo Sabres for Curtis Brown and Andy Delmore; Then, San Jose Sharks traded Andy Delmore to the Boston Bruins for future considerations.
Mar 5, 2003: San Jose Sharks traded Owen Nolan to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Alyn McCauley, Brad Boyes and a 1st round selection (later traded to Boston - Boston selected Mark Stuart) in 2003.
Jun 24, 2000: Drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1st round (24th overall) in 2000.
Sharks ultimate traded Jillson to the Sabres for a bag of used pucks.
Boyes was they key player in the Owen Nolan trade. Nolan was at the time, the Sharks captain and best player (sound familiar?). All the Sharks have left to show for that trade is Alyn McCauley, who's a nice 3-4 center and penalty killer but sheesh can't say that worked out all that well although Nolan has been on the decline ever since so in retrospect the timing was good.
On the other hand, maybe Mike O'Connell was thinking, "hmm...I got the best of the Sharks on that Boyes deal, and that worked out pretty well, maybe Doug Wilson will take this lazy Thornton character off our hands..."

Please, don't assume I am a Bruins fan.
Most of us former Whalers fans still don't care for the Bruins, much less want to cheer for them.
And the Thorton trade was ALMOST as bad as the Whaler - franchise - killing Ron Francis trade.

"Hey Bruins Owners: BITE ME!!!"
Good for Joe Thornton, bad for Boston sports history.
What's next, Bronson Arroyo winning the Cy Young Award?
