Is it better to part out a PSA Set Or Sell it Complete

Hello,
Thinking about selling my Alan Page Basic Set. First place 2005 and 2006. MOSH just passed me and I really don't feel like compeating with them. Right now I'm only 20 pts down.
Just looking for opinions are whether it would be better to sell as a complete set or sell them as singles.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason, you have a great set, plus you keep it open and provide nice scans.
From looking at your pics, it's obvious that you've spent a lot of time and effort in acquiring great looking cards.

Why throw it all away just because you're no longer # 1 ?

Few folks can compete with endlessly deep pockets for the # one registry spots,
but we can keep upgrading our sets with nice looking cards, basking in the knowledge
that we're really into some sets we truely care about and that we will continue to upgrade them as we can.

    No shame these days in being # 2, # 3, # 4, or # 50, if you enjoy the cards ... image

  • I'm with Wolfbear. I have always liked Alan Page and am currently third. I plan on continuing the set and have little hope of catching MOSH but I am going to put together a nice set for me. Keep your set and we can compete for second.image

  • Jason- If you have to sell, you'll get the most $$ by selling them as singles. We hope though that you keep your set intact and continue to collect regardless of your position on the Registry

If it was me, on a set that small, I would go balls to the wall and try to beat MOSH to 100% 10.0. If it was a big set, I might consider giving up but on 12 cards, go for it. Beating MOSH to the finish line would be plenty of satisfaction on the money spent.

Conventional wisdom is that there is more money in breaking it up, but I don't know if in this case it's better whole. A serious fan could be more inclined to spend more on a complete set at once, especially if it's known to be the #2 finest set. Could be worth a shot selling it with your bottom line price. If that doesn't work you can piece it out.

    Dear Jason,
If you honestly wish to sell your collection feel free but it is apparent to other collectors out there that this set was a labor of love on your part and the only person you truly are in competition with is your self. I am behind MOSH on all my completed Basketball sets and it does not bother me one bit. I collect what I love and only try to improve my sets for my own satisfaction. As the other members have said and I concur it would be a shame to lose a dedicated collector because of their PSA ranking. I know it is a hard decision to make but grab a beer (or beverage of preference) and make your final decision when you do not feel as upset over the registry situation. Whatever you decide good luck.
