Anyone see the 67T FB 'common' PSA-8 hit $1,642. on Ebay?

Anyone who collects 67T football had to 'see it to believe it' when the #131 Leslie Duncan in PSA-8 finished at $1,642. on ebay today.
I'll be the first to agree that it is one of the hardest 8's in the set to find and having the #1 Charger Team set for 67' I could use one myself but really, does a no-name player command $1.6K just on low pop? I'm happy to see Mickey's make the $$$, he's gotten some of mine in the past as well, but......

    BoltBoy,

Are you trying to rub it in?

I was the underbidder on Speedy Duncan and it was the last card I needed to complete the set in 8 or better. I believe it is a pop 4?

Anyway pop was not the most important consideration as I knew I would be butting heads with Shopping Lucy.

Brian and I thought $1,617 would be enough against the man who is bidding on anything and everything in psa 8 and better from the 50s and 60s...but we were wrong.

It is a staggering price and I can't believe I lost but ole Lucy came out with all cylinders firing on this one.

I hope there is nother Duncan in my future.

And I will bid less on the next one.

  • OK, Now that is a sign that somebody has too much money.
That is also the exact reason that I am not as driven as Jim to get to "all 8's". Jim, I am disappointed for you but I suspect that if anything will get those submitted........ that might be it and the next few will be much cheaper. Now I know that is not the priority here but with the market this way, we could all use a few extra bucks.
I believe that that is in the order of magnitude of what I paid for my '67 Namath in 10 and while I know that this one is tough, I think that is an awfully strong price. See if you can get Scott Susor on this one, he hunts low pop commons.
I have not seen any Lucy sets that I recognize and with only 190 feedback I am not surprised. Are they registering? This is only the second FB card I have seen them win so I did not run into them as often as you do. I have my own names that I hate to see these days,
    Fuzz
Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

    Fuzz,

Lucy is not registering his sets--maybe he will at some point--but he is everywhere. Brian would know this but I would bet we've lost over 50 cards to Lucy.

I agree that $1,642 is a ridiculous price and I probably should be happy I lost.

I think Scott sells almost all his cards on ebay--except for Toppsgun who he has a special deal with(ha ha).

  • Dav,
I wasn't trying to rub it in, I respect anyone's attempts to improve their sets. I just can't wrap my head around the logic. I've reached deep into my pockets for low-pop commons just like everyone else but this one just blows me away. I expect Fuzz is right in that it will produce a run of submissions and hopefully make both of us happy in the end at a much lower price. I've spent some time plowing through the raws myself and could only produce a 7 at best. Again, a truly tough card for the grade but.....image

  • BE VERY HAPPY thats just nuts as fuzz said somebody has to much money.
Its a 7 pop Jim by the way and as mentioned to you before i feel the easiest set of the 60,s when i did the one i sold to mosh it was put together in less then a year not to mention you see more unopen wax from this Year then any other besides maybe 68,s.
What kills me about Lucy as he does not go for nines like Jim its all 8,s only time you see him bid a nine if its for a hole

    BoltBoy,

    I was kidding.

I was initially very disappointed I lost the card but don't feel so bad now.

I managed to outbid the guy yesterday on a '62 Fleer FB Billy Lott PSA 8, also pop 4 and the hardest card in the set. I don't know why he'd bid more than twice for the '67 what he bid for the '62. Of course, I don't know why I was willing to pay over 12 times book image. Jim, I'm surprised you didn't come heavier for the Lott, since it's the last card you need. I didn't expect to win the auction considering the heavies who still need it.

    Joe,

We completely missed that one--nuts, would have bid on it.

Well I don't know if that's your loss or my loss, considering I'm closing on a house next week image

  • JIM CONSIDER THIS SINCE THERE ARE 6 eights and a nine of this card and it went for the price it did, what do you think 1 of the TWO 67 phillys that have no eights and only 2 sevens or the 66 last card checklist that mosh, fuzz, myself, you all need would go for, oh yea if you dont know its a zero pop as well
  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
    Joe,

Probably my loss--good luck in your closing.

    Art,

Mine was a stupid bid--I think I'm glad I lost that one.

However I would be happy to pay 2X book for those two 67 Philly cards.

    Jim

Not long ago - I lost a 68 common with a pop of 9 to Lucy for over $80 - That was my first and hopefully last experience with Lucy but I doubt it will be

Haven't really been following the 1967s lately,
but spent a couple of years looking for a Duncan that would grade an 8 and never found one.
For some reason the centering is usually terrible.

    Even on the 8's.

Good to see that you picked up that 1962 Lott card Joe.

That particular Speedy Duncan card was not even a nice looking example IMHO.

I knew the set would take me a while, but I'm now 3.5 years into it image. Just need the Capelletti... if memory serves, I was outbid on one about a year ago. My records show a Lott sold in January 2003 for $75. Is that yours, Paul?

Went back and looked at my January 2003 records.
Won six 1962 Fleer cards from Discount Sportscard Co. on January 11 :

    # 1 Billy Lott - PSA 8
    # 7 Walt Cudzik - PSA 10
    # 59 Don Maynard - PSA 7
    # 61 Mike Hudock - PSA 9
    # 72 Jim Otto - PSA 7
    # 77 Charley Powell - PSA 8

    Grand total ... drum roll please ... $ 505.50

My how times have changed since then.
Must be why I don't win many high-end cards anymore. I'm still bidding like it's 2003. image

  • I've lost a few cards to Lucy too (who hasn't), but I've also won a few. I agree with Jim though. There are big dogs and smart dogs. Once the big dog gets his card, the next one will be cheaper.

Wolf- It all goes in cycles. Once the cycle turns, you'll be winning more cards again.

    1600 bucks, not bad.

Maybe time to reconsider certifying my 1967 raw set - never thought it was worth the certification fees before.

The Master "Mantlefan" joins the fray.

Go for it Frank ..... no one does it any better than you when it comes to building a highly desireable set!!

You don't do too shabby when you sell them either.

Come to think of it, Art is no slouch either.
  • Frank jump on in we need a guy who can keep J.O. in check
matte and renfro are the 67,s and 132 last card checklist is the 66 find them and you will win the lotto image

    Just for grins:
If anyone is really interested ........ I have a 1967 PSA 8 Leslie Speedy Duncan
that I would consider letting go of out of my 6th ranked registry set.

Anyway offer away: cash, trade or both if anyone is so inclined.

Trade wise, I prefer 60's Baseball.

This thread reminds me of that 1953 Bowman Color common PSA 8 that Chris Renaud lost out on with an $8000 bid! Anybody remember that? I remember in his posts he sounded dissapointed. I wish I had that kind of money to be dissapointed like that.
  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
For you guys that are offering the Duncan at the underbidders price(me) or at $1500(two separate offers)--dream on.

Next one is going for less than half of the price that Shopping Lucy paid--if you don't believe me we can place a small wager on it.

  • mojorobmojorob Posts: 392 ✭✭
Well Jim, you just never know.
Maybe Shoppinglucy will return the favor.

You just never know what may happen when two guy's bid stupid.
  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
And you never know when a person is going to be stupid for not selling at the next price buy I am betting we have one of those situations here.
  • mojorobmojorob Posts: 392 ✭✭
    Say what???

Don't quite understand your last statement. .... maybe you could clarrify.

Did perhaps you make an offer or counter offer to someone that had the card and they foolishly turned you down?

  • DavalilloDavalillo Posts: 1,846 ✭✭
You offered me the card at my underbid.

Another owner offered me one at $1,500.

I said the next Duncan PSA 8 will go at less than half what Shopping Lucy paid.
  • mojorobmojorob Posts: 392 ✭✭
No bet on that one Jim.

Nice to see Shoppinglucy "Die By The Sword" once in a while.
The price you can pay, when you just have to have it.

I shudder to think what his top bid really was.

DAV, you may have lost the battle ....... but truly won the war on that one!!
Mickey's should take good care of you on your next order.
