This is my first post here. I'm a little excited about my recent find. Probably not much to most but I was working a school yard from the late 1800's and got a strong signal of a quarter about 8" down. I use a White's XLT. The signal was at the base of a tree. I dug the area carefully and pulled out a coin. I brought it home and have carefully washed the dirt and it has spent some time in a potato. Learned that here......and it is a 2cent piece dated 1865. Still working on the coin to clean it up.

Cool find. If you're patient, try letting it soak in veg. oil for a few months (rest of the crud may start to fall off and it doesn't hurt the coin). Looks like it has some sharp details.
