What is really is a

surface wrinkle...you know the one that brings that mint looking card down to a 5. Is it something that looks like a spider vein - for lack of a better description..

Thanks for any input

    And I would add...

IMO, a crease is done in handling while a surface wrinkle is part of the production process of the card.

Basically, one could pull a card fresh from a pack in 1952 and get a "wrinkle."

I agree with Mike - a wrinkle often occurs in production.

Of course, now, that also depends on what your definition of "is" is....

The spider and (sometimes) the wrinkle CAN be fixed, but......

The probelm is: He can be hard to find; sometimes even with a loupe
and a bright light. So, you send the thing in, and you do not find
the spider until AFTER he has gotten you a "5," and has been
    sealed in plastic.

I have a stack of them. They were 9s/10s, when I sent them in.
    Now, they are 5s.

I've received plenty of these since I do not inspect my submissions with the Hubble Telescope.

I've gone with the Scanning Electron Microscope - here's what a wrinkle looks like under heavy magnification:
