1991 Wild Card Prototypes

Does anyone know how the 1991 Wild Card Football Prototypes were distributed? (i.e. in set form, in packs, individually at a show) Also, I am looking for a 1991 Lawrence Taylor Wild Card Prototype #6 in great shape if anyone has one they would be willing to sell.

    John,

I'm looking in the 2005 Standard Catalog of fb cards and it doesn't say how they were distributed. I can tell you the 1991 Wild Card Prototype set was made up of 6 cards and the LT is card #6. The sets were usually issued in set form (not packs) and were issued to dealers through the mail or at a large convention. I do know that the 1993 Wild Card Protoype was issued at the 1993 National Convention - so the 1991 set could have been issued at the 1991 Convention....but I'm not positive. I just looked on both Touchdown Treasures and Columbia City Collectibles - and neither site shows the card for sale.

  • Greg and Montanafan,
Thanks for responding. Distribution at the 1991 Convention was probably the likely method of distribution for those cards based on the info you provided. I did find one tonight on EBAY and I bought it. Link

I think I still have a Barry Sanders promo somewhere. As I recall, I either got it through the mail for free from someone like Big Bob's who I had ordered from before, or it came in a Tuff Stuff or something. I'm more certain of it being the former. But I think it had a circle on the front saying something about the National in Anaheim. So it wasn't a 'prototype' like the Taylor, but more of a regular promo card. But I haven't looked at it in probably 15 years, so it might have said protoype on the back.
