How Do You Argue With PSA On Re-Coloring

Hey Guys,

I could use some help. Late Friday my grades posted on a small submission of Marino Insert Cards. Two of them were not graded due to re-coloring. I pulled one of these cards myself from a pack and put it directly in a holder and the other I was present when it was pulled and bought it and put it in a holder neither have ever been removed from the holder until I sent them to PSA to grade. If they were re-colored it was done at the factory. Has anyone had this happen to them? How do you argue this? No it's not , Yes it is, No it's not?

By the way how do you re-color a Flair Showcase card it's holographic foil on the front and white on the back, who would recolor the back of a card????!!! In the submission I also received a 10 and two 9's not bad, then a 5? I must be losing my mind, I am not a rookie I can spot a 10 but another card that went through the same process comes out a 5, ok maybe an 8 but a 5?

And of course they posted on Friday Pm so by the time I call they will have shipped. I would appreciate any help that someone who has been in this situation could give.

Thanks Jack

  • It sounds like you are at a similar situation as the minimum size requirement not met debacle. Unless you have photographic proof of actually pulling the cards, they will probably through all of their disclaimers at you.

You might try cracking, saving the label, resubmitting, and then share the old label with customer service once the card is successfully regraded.

  • Your right. And as everyone knows you always carry a video camera around with you just for such an occasion.

The real problem is that I now have two $125 cards that I can not sell in good faith and I know they are not re-colored. It just gets very frustraiting. I am not going to argue with them concerning the 5 I have cracked and resubbed enough that got graded higher the second time not to waste time with that arguement.

I just want to know what kind of a test or proof they use to say something is re-colored. I had one in another submission that they said was re-colored that was a 10 cent card. Why would anyone re-color a 10 cent common high pop card? Please! I could have bought the card in PSA 8 for less than grading and shipping fees.

I think it's a cop out when they don't know how to grade a certain card.

Jack, We would all love to believe that the graders are infallible, but, alas, they are only human, too....Trained to believe that certain aspects of a card automatically lead to judgements....I was shocked when my cheapies came back as recolored, didn't bother to ask why, but you have greater interests here, so call and speak to someone in the higher ranks in Cust Service, explain your situation and give them the facts....Be persistent, quite possibly you will receive a good response

Resubmit them, they'll grade the 2nd time thru. Just part of the game.

  • yeah no point arguing with psa... resubmit them later and see what happens
  • I always keep a pile for resubmitting the second time, most don't make it, but many often do. I definately crack them out and submit raw the second time. I tried the argueing and begging approach, that failed every time.
