poll on 80's & 90's NFL team set

I was curious why Reggie White's card used for the 80's and 90's NFL decade sets was from 1986 Topps.
His card in the NFL HOF set is 1984 USFL.
I would like to change the card in the 80's and 90's set, if others are interested.
If this has been brought up before please school me.
thanks

  • You would have to email BJ and request the change. She will than poll the people who are building the sets for their vote. It would be better if you could start a specific thread about this or email the other paticipants in the set to see if they feel as you do.

There was a discussion a year ago about which rookie cards to use in the HOF rookie set for Steve Young, Jim Kelly and Reggie White (before he was elected to the HOF). We voted on the issue and the concensus was that the USFL cards would be used instead of the first regular Topps cards. Since the 1986 Topps Reggie White card was included in the team of the 80's and other sets, nobody bothered to change Reggie White's rookie to the USFL card once he was elected to the HOF and his USFL card was added to the HOF rc set. As Fabfrank suggested, just e-mail BJ and put this question to a vote. I know that I'll vote for the USFL card.

Greg, this wasn't overlooked at all.

If you look at the Team of the Decade sets, you will see that they are NFL Team of the Decade. These players were chosen for these teams based exclusively on their NFL careers.

This was already addressed and the decision was made to use the NFL rookie card of each player. Sean Landeta also falls into the same category as Reggie White as having a USFL rookie card. Unlike the HOF set, the NFL Team of the Decade sets are comprised on NFL RCs only, not USFL. I might still have the old e-mail chain with BJ and Cosetta on this if you want to see it. This was over a year ago though.

That's logical. Remember the pro football HOF is not just for the NFL, so it makes sense to include an inductee's most desirable RC from any league. For the decade NFL sets it makes sense to include only NFL cards. JMHO.

  • That's what I wanted to know. I figured there was a reason behind the decision, but I could not remember what it was. Thanks for the clarification.

    Jason,

I stand corrected. I missed the thread about keeping the NFL rc for the team of the decade sets.
