Yankees "All-Years" singed baseball Includes Rare Maris sig...

Hey guys, sorry to post this here if it's not appropriate, but I have a Yankees "All-years" signed baseball that I am wondering if anyone might be interested in or could give me some info on. The baseball has 21 total signatures including Roger Maris' which I think is a very rare signature according to the SMR. The ball was won at an auction years ago. It is an Official American League Ball with the following signatures that I can decipher:

Roger Maris
Joe DiMaggio
Yogi Berra
Don Larsen
Bob Grim
Hank Bauer
Bill "Moose" Skowron
Mickey Vernon
Allie Reynolds
Eddie Lopat
Bobby Richardson

Does anyone have a clue what this ball might be worth? If you might be interested in it please PM me or email me at mjmurphy31@aol.com.

If the ball is in a ball cube, could you put it in the scanner and give some different views of the ball?

    What's the condition?

Is there shellac on the ball?

Who is the president on the OAL ball?

    Joseph E. "Joe" Cronin
    1959 to 1973

    Leland S. MacPhail, Jr.
    1974 to 1984

    Robert W. Brown
    1984 to 1994

I'm trying to get a fix on the date of the ball?

I think getting it authenticated will increase the "value" of the ball.

    thanx and good luck

  • Hey Mike, the ball is an Official American League Ball with Bobby Brown as the President. I have tried to scan the ball to see the sigs but I don't know how it will turn out. The overall condition of the ball is very good. It has some slight toning (yellowing) of the ball but not bad. There is no shellacing on the ball. Like I said there are 21 total sigs and I could identify about half of them. The majority of the signatures are still very bold although some have faded just slightly. I currently have 8 single-signed balls (Mantle, Williams, and DiMaggios's) being graded and authenticated by PSA/DNA as we speak. I guess my question would be, should I just get the Maris and DiMaggio sigs authenticated on the ball or should I pay to have all of the rest authenticated as well? Will this affect the overall value of the ball and if so how will it affect it? I have had this ball for a while and never realized that Maris had signed it and I didn't realize how rare his signature is compared to others. I would like to just get the Maris and DiMaggio sigs authenticated and maybe the Yogi Berra, but the rest I would think would not be worth the money to get authenticated unless it would significantly change the value of the ball if they were. Any advise?

    Thanks,

    Matt

That ball is tremendous! Great shape!

Time frame is simple - it's a Brown ball - 1984...and Maris died in 1985 - so we place the ball right at about 1984+ as being signed.

I'm not very good with this kind of stuff - but intuition tells me - have the entire thing authenticated/ID'ed for all the names and then it should go to a good auction house IMO.

The Maris auto looks real to me - thanx for sharing and I wish you all the best!

I wish I could afford the ball!

edit: too bad the "Mick" isn't on it? Is Elston Howard on the ball?

  • Thanks for the advise Mike. Yeah, I guess I just need to suck it up and get all of the autographs authenticated and then try to sell. You're right, the ball is in great shape and has very little toning. The DiMaggio sig is slightly faded but not terribly. You're right it's too bad that the Mick didn't sign it. As far as the Elston Howard sig it doesn't appear to be on there but there are some that I just don't have a clue on. Anyways, I will have to get PSA/DNA to help me out determining the sigs and the cost for authenticating but I'll definitely go that route. As far as price goes, what do you think this might could go for with an auction house, if all the sigs are authenticated? I see a few Maris balls on the web that are well over $1,000 and not near as clear and bold of a sig. I would think maybe at least $2,000-$2,500 but I could be way off. Thanks for the advice and help

    MurphDawg -

If I'm not mistaken, PSA/DNA just charges you for the most "premier" signature on a group ball. In this case it would be $150 to authenticate the ball as that is the fee for Dimaggio. From what I can see they are all good. Being that these are Yankees there will be decent demand, but I wouldn't expect to retire on the proceeds as the mixture of signatures without a theme other than being Yankees will temper the demand somewhat. Just a real educated guess the ball might bring as much as ~$800-1000 from an auction house, less 10-17% commission but the reality is that it could be much less as the real demand is in single signed balls.

You didn't show all the panels, but from what I can see here are the names on the ball. If you can post scans of the other panels I can probably identify them all.

    ??Can't see
    Charlie Keller
    Nick Etten
    Bobby Murcer
    Roger Maris

    Joe Dimaggio
    Yogi Berra
    Don Larson (side)
    Tom Henrich (below)

    Ed Lopat
    Bobby Richardson
    Mickey Vernon
