Advice requested. I have a collection of 500 y/o silver Polish coins to sell.

I have a bunch of 500 year old Polish coins to sell. I'm not sure if I should try this a one large lot on eBay or break it into smaller ones. If I do break it down I'd like the keep the value of each lot above $100.

I am about to search the web for more info on these coins. I don't know anything about them myself. It looks like someone was trying to assemble a date set as each coin has a different date.

If anybody is interested in helping me identify these coins or has advice on selling them I would appreciate it. I will check this thread after I get back from lunch and take more photos if there is any interest. I know you would need to see the other side and get more closeups for any specific help. Since I am just starting with these coins any general, broad info is also appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Polish material seems to be a very hot segment of the market right now. If I were in your shoes, I would pull aside some of the nicer coins and let it roll on eBay to see what kind of response you get. However, take it in small groups and dont rush it. Make sure you have it all categorized using Krause first. I would love to help, but Polish material is not my area of expertise.

They are all worthless, send them to me for proper disposal!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Thanks Marty, now I know they are worth something, LOL. image

Here are more photos. I will start to work on figuring out dates and so forth. I don't have Krause catalogues for the 15 and 16 hundreds and don't know if I want to buy them now or if they would arrive quickly even if I did. I guess I would spring for a cheap used copy...

I'll update this thread next week when I have done more research.

  • I'm no Polish coin expert but I feel the following is the best route for sales in general. First, try to get a rough idea what your coins are worth individually, Krause would be best. Most libraries actually have them to borrow. You can also search ebay sales back a few months and check Heritage's auction archives. This is an invaluable tool. If any of the coins appear to be valued over $100 I'd consider sending them to get slabbed. If not, I'd do what Brent said and put them on ebay. Take the best pictures you can and include as much information you can come across. You'll find no greater venue for potential buyers than ebay. That's my opinion. Good luck. Keep us posted.image

Everything I write is my opinion.

    Looking for alot of crap.
  • Early polish material is getting attention on eBay, although I tend to only look at the slabbed material, some coins are selling for not bad money. As mentioned, have the better coins slabbed, you will probably not go wrong.
