A black diamond and gold ring, likely given by Edward III to one of his loyal supporters in the 14th century and found a couple years back by a detectorist in Cheshire, England, sold at auction Thursday for $150,000.

I had a heck of a time searching for images of the ring after I read the story. None of the articles I found had anything but blurry or distant shots. But man, when you finally see it, you KNOW instantly it's something special:

Glad some others found it interesting. Find of a lifetime for me would be a nice MA oak or pine tree shilling. But man, this has made me question that dream find. So much history, so much craftsmanship, so much effort and a needle-in-a-haystack chance of finding it. Add in the intrigue and mystery, to say nothing of the immense monetary value.

  • What an incredible find and background reading. How in the heck does this ring get lost? That's the story I want to hear. Thanks for posting this; I hadn't heard of it before.
