#4 All time 1972 Set up for sale on Ebay - Holy COW!!!

1972 Set #4 all time

This set is so sweet! I have dealt with William for a couple of trades. He doesn't use PayPal but I can say he is a top notch person. I hope he gets a great price without Paypal but that concerns me with the dollar amount of the set. I have a feeling MOSH will buy this one because of there are 18 PSA 10's that are 1of1.

If any of you are interested in the set and want to email ebayfortroy@hotmail.com or PM me to talk about William the seller please do. I am doing this to help his sale because I have a feeling it may go lower without PayPal.

I sure wish I had the cash to buy this one.image

Unless there's something I'm missing I think it's also a terrible idea to keep the bidder ID private, since that spells 'scam' about 90% of the time. Combine this with no Paypal and you have a recipe for disaster.

Don't get me wrong-- I hope he does well with the set. It's just that if you're going to run an auction in this manner you'd probably be better off consigning it to someone.
  • Probably legit, but I don't understand his the listing choices.

Don't see any problem with the listing.

    Private auctions sometimes means shilling,
but he has put a reserve on the set so that's not really a factor.

The big auction houses don't accept paypal or credit cards
so don't really think that will really make any difference either.

Also, he has perfect feedback. Good luck with the auction William!

I was thinking in term of consigning it to one of the larger Ebay dealers. But like you said, I hope he does well with it!

fyi, you can see the list of bidders by inputting the item number on goofbay.com

I don't understand the paypal comment. On an item of this magnitude, paypal is useless. A real check is more secure than an echeck for both parties. Plus no one (including auction houses) wants to pay the merchant surcharge of a 20K credit card charge.
  • I don't think this is going to meet the reserve.

Also of note, 1.82 dollars to the pound.

This is my favorite line from the description:

<< <i>A LOT OF WORK, TIME AND EFFORT WENT INTO THIS SET, AS I SAID BEFORE I HATE TO DEPART WITH IT. >>

Dude, where are you taking it???

BTW - Just some playful ribbing.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

WITHOUT THE DARNED ALL-CAPS, with a little bit of attention to second-grade grammar and with a lot more effort on the photos, the seller might have done better.

Sometimes folks forget that the potential purchasers of high-ticket items (like this one) expect more than a perfunctory sales pitch when being asked to shell out upwards of 20K. This auction was a prime example.
