need help on how to shrink a pic?

good afternoon all,
can someone please direct me on how to reduce the size of a pic i am trying to replace the bulldog with. i know i can only switch pics on the 15th of the month (yesterday) but i tied a number of different pics and they were all too big. how do i shrink these things down small enough to get it appropraite for my icon? help is appreciated of course. have a nice weekend all.
