What's the point?? You really think we're paying the same prices?

I was searching for some cards on the Bay, and noticed one particular seller has a PSA 10 card with a buy it now for $2.00.
That's right. TWO DOLLARS.
I'm just having a hard time comprehending how a buy it now for a psa 10 can be two dollars. What's the point of sending in a card to be graded if a gem mint grade is only $2.00?? I've been a member for about three years now and the best price I've seen on grading is $5.00 specials. Any chance large bulk "favorite" dealers get their cards graded for about $1.00 each?? That's the only explanation I can come up with as to why someone would send in a card, get a PSA 10, and then put a buy it now at $2.00.
Opinions???
I think I'll buy the card, shipping is $3.00, not unreasonable.
Just wondering how big a discount some guys are getting?

With all due respect, I don't know if it matters, does it?
I doubt it's a mistake, it's probably not worth two dollars. I just want to know how you can have ANY card graded and then have a PSA 10 with a buy it now for $2.00.
Here's the link in case I'm missing the fine print. The seller shouldn't surprise you.
Hey I'm a Colts fan, don't laugh at me for looking
I had erroneously listed it at $1.99. Since I list in bulk, it was just one of those rare errors that happens from time to time.

That does kind of make a fella wonder. Although it's hard to believe that even the great doofus Roger would be able to swing a deal where he was getting cards slabbed for the price of mini Slim Jim snack at the local 7-11 I've certainly learned to 'never say never' when it comes to odd dealings within the hobby. My guess is that he either a) got this card as part of a deal he bought, or b) thought he'd try getting a bunch of ultra-modern stars graded to see what would happen, discovered there's no margin in it, and has now relegated the products of said experiment to the low feeding ground known as 'The Ebay Store'.
And thanks, Shawn, for your nice comments in the other post!
<< <i>For a minute I thought you were talking about me! I recently listed a BGS 9.5 2005 USA Alex Gordon card in my ebay store. I THOUGHT I had listed the Buy It Now at $19.99. The next day, I was informed that the card had sold.......... for $1.99!!!

No problem there! Just send the buyer an 'FU' email and tell him the closest he'll ever get to the card is the scan on the auction page! Hell, it works for other guys!
And, they may get the buyer of that card to buy another card
or two.
If I was submitting huge volumes of cards, I am sure that I would
not be paying "retail" to PSA; nor should I.
PSA could not stay in business without many large submitters. It
is in the financial interest of the owners of PSA-graded cards that
PSA makes plenty of money and stays in business "forever." The
big submitters are helping that cause, AND they are providing
the ability of PSA to offer a "collector subsidy" in the form of the
$5.00 specials.

He gets cards graded...puts them out high...if they don't go..he drops them....if they still don't go...he drops them even more....if then....he almost gives them away...
They make up for it with $3.50 S&H!!! You''ll get the card amiled to you in a padded mailer for 82 cents....
Not that there's much wrong with that....but...he's just turning inventory. He makes up for it on other 9's and 10's that go for huge $$$$.
He had some 85 Topps Hockey 10's that I needed for my set before I sold it. He listed them at $20 each...I didn't bid...he dropped them to $9.95....I took the ones that I needed. The rest that went unbid are now in his store for $4.00 BIN.
No conspiracy....he's just staying liquid.....
Loss leaders can do wonders for earning repeat customers. Nearly all successful businesses use them at one point or another.
There are vagaries to the market, especially as it relates to set collectors and player collectors. If there is a PSA 10 I need, I might pay $60- for it, for example. But if two or three of us already have it, the drop-off is steep to what the next one might go for [under $10]. Certain dealers cater to these markets - profit big on some sales, and lose on other. Such is life - it is part of the business model. Better than having the card sit in an Ebay store for $25- BIN for the next 36 months.

If the guy is a big dealer - then he's a big "buyer"
If he buys a large lot from a seller - lets say 200 graded cards - he has to take the good with the bad to close the deal.
He doesn't want that stuff lying around...
So he blows it off just to get rid of it - plus he got the advertisement for free.

<< <i>He's listed a lot of stuff at the $2-$4 range. Probably just clearing out old inventory and doesn't care what he gets for it. I bought a 95 Proline Elway PSA 10 for $2 just because it was $2. I don't collect Elway and hate Proline, but it may come in handy.

Lee, you just trumped me. THIS is the funniest s**t I've read all day
I did the same thing today, BTW. I have no use for a NM 1968 OPC Dennis Hull, but I paid 5$ for one at a card show today using the exact same rationale. Who needs potable water after the Chinese drop the big one when you've got NM hockey cards from the '60's to fall back on?

I regret to say I do the same thing on cards I don't collect. Especially if I've already purchased a card I want, I might as well pick out a few more, since the shipping keeps getting cheaper. Right?
