Info dump on known card doctors?

Has anyone kept track of some sellers on Ebay or websites who seem to sell tainted or suspcious cards?

  • I just had two cards (bought from the same seller) not graded due to evidence of coloring. Hmmm....

the last time something like this was tried some guys got bounced and got letters from lawyers. Unfortunately it's better to keep this discussion off public boards.

I don't see why you can't post your opinion and/or facts.

For example, "I received two cards from PSA that came backed evidence of trimming that I had purchased from xyz seller." It's just a fact. If a number of people post similar true statements I don't see a lawsuit!?

Gee whiz. How can the "buyer beware" when the buyer isn't allowed to talk in public?

We seem to have a lot of "this seller is a jerk!" type threads, I don't see how this would be any different.

Discussing alleged trimmers is a touchy subject - I would not recommend a data pool but if someone just talks about specific sellers and problems - I don't see a problem - but Anthony is correct - when guys went after "certain" big sellers, the shit hit the fan!

Here's a link to one thread and here's a link from that linked thread.

  • Funny how stuff could hit the fan, when we would only be doing a service to newbies. I mean someone is knowingly doctoring cards and we know who they are, why should we be scared to spread the word.

    Merely playing devil's advocate...

    Good question.

I think that if someone has issue with a dealer and trimming, e.g., asking questions or sharing info is ok.

But, if the dealer is big enough, they could put pressure on CU to squelch the talk.

It happened a while back with Mintstate - to be honest I don't remember what the beef was.

But some people got letters from lawyers and threatened with expulsion if they didn't recant I believe.

One important point: this is not a public forum...CU reserves the right...

That's only fair - it's a company who has to protect themselves...total freedom of speech does not exist.

    We are "guests" of CU.

  • Mike - Nice talking points. You mean to tell me people got letters for simply discussing items on this board? True what you say about policing this site. My company is involved with a board like this for people in my industry and you better believe sponsors have to power to remove items they are not cool with.
