Nice 2006 topps pull, but why does it bother me??

I tried to post the link, but the board says that it contains an illegal word.

here is the number.

8823878366

Sweet Card. seller is new.

That signature is bothering me though. That appears to be the same large bold signature he signed the Declaration of Independence with. Anyone who understands early american history knows his signature is similar, but not near as bold. He signed the DOI that way to make sure the people who read it knew he signed it as they were basically signing their own death warrant .

Try deleting a letter or two in Johns last name.

  • Its in the actual Ebay links so deleting the name will mess up the link
  • I have never pulled anything like this, not even close. I can't image the rush/feeling you would get with a pull like this. Do you think you would get more for your money on a card like this via eBay or an auction house?

Tell me they didn't cut up an actual copy of the Declaration of Independence. Please tell me they found other autographs of the signers and used those. I can't read all of the back of the card, but it implies they chopped up an actual original copy. If so, that's inexcusable.

No such details will spoil my plans...
  • They cut up a letter or something, but that signature is the exact same type he signed the DOI with. I am thinking the autograph itself may be a forgery, wouldn't that be a scandal. Just reading into the historical meaning of his signature. It is much bolder than his normal signature
  • $2.50 shipping and no insurance offered! image
  • um i hope no one here is going to buy that.. did anyone notice the whopping 22 feedback and 95% on the seller?
  • My wife agrees with my thinking that that signature may be a forgery, due to my same reasons. She has a bachelors in history planning on getting a Doctorate. If it turns out to be a forgery that would be a huge scandal for Topps.

Not to mention the sellers history and newness adds unease to this deal.
  • Not sure that I subscrive to the theory this card is or could be a fake. Why would someone doctor such a high profile signer and card. Why not doctor some no name signer - still 1 of 1. Think how consistent Mantle signed his name...don't you think maybe John Han (illegal word) was the same way?

  • that signature is huge if it's real.. so big and important and fancy that the word JOHN HANBLEEP has actually become synonymous with autograph or signature...
  • That is my point he did not sign his name huge like that except on the Declaration of Independence. He did that as a means to highlight his defiance of the British rule. By signing it those men were signing their own death warrants and he did not care who knew it.

I may be reading too deeply into it, but stranger things have happened with GU stuff. Remember the Manny Ramirez corked bat incident and the fake jerseys that Pacific(I think) used at one point.

Bad News either way....If it's fake, well....If it's real, then a slap on the wrist to Corporate Fat-Cats who continue with the unabashed raping of American History (I can say raping, can't I?). Shouldn't this item as well as anything that has to do with our countries break from British Rule be in a museum? I bet Dubya's behind all this....

Many of his personal letters and such are in private collections I am sure that this is where this came from. There is no way Topps cut up the Declaration(at least I hope not.) Gotta remember he was very important man in the time of the revolution and wrote thousands of letters.

    Interesting thoughts.

Here's another for sale on ebay.

I wonder what a cut sig of JH is worth?

If they chopped up a letter - that's actually too bad since it's most likely worth more in that form than a "cut" the size of a baseball card.

    Too much for me anyhow.
