Congratulations to all the winners, there's some outstanding and deserving winners out there.

No disrespect to Red Sox Jeff's 1977 set, but I'm not sure what rbdjr1 has to do to win the "Best Modern (1972-present) Set of the Year" with his 1976 set.

I've been away from the computer for quite awhile but apparently my 1980 WBTV set is the best of the registry which is something since 1) it's not a complete set and 2) the Ripken was never put in a PSA slab.

No argument with the winners, but I have to wonder...how does one consistently get on this list...most notably John Woody's Alex Rodriguez Master Set. John is a good guy and this is not a slight against him, but if you compare some of the larger modern player Master Sets, is his really the best?? I am only throwing this out for discussion and I am a little biased towards my McGwire set, but if you look at the numbers:

    John's Rodriguez Set:
9.22 Overall GPA out of 9.08 Max
    837 of 1796 cards

    My McGwire Set:
9.07 Overall GPA out of 9.26 Max
    1311 of 2591 cards

My collection is nearly 500 cards larger. What is are the qualifying factors for consideration?? Anyone?? Bueller?? Anyone??

    Thanks for letting me rant...
  • You may have more cards, but it looks like the completion percentages are similar, with his scoring an overall higher GPA. It might be that they deem the cards he has acquired to be tougher than the ones in yours? Meaning that you may have a great deal number of more easily attainable cards?

Not sure, just throwing ideas out there.

    Interesting . . .
Thanks for throwing that out there .
I love the 3000 hit club best single signed baseball collection .
I had absolutely no idea anything like this even existed .
I wonder if there is one for best World Series Championship baseball collection ?

    Keen...

Not to override your observation, cause what you said may be the case, but if you look at the set ratings for mine and John Woody's sets, they are as follows:

    John's Rodriguez Set...3.23
    My McGwire Set...........3.96

The set rating is a calculation that includes per card ratings (higher ratings are deemed more difficult/rare). Mine is nearly 3/4 of a point higher.
