Anybody....

Collect guys who aren't a well known major leaguer(for example) I collect Orlando Cabrera and Willie Harris. Now of course both are much more widely known then when I first started collecting these guys as both played Single-A ball in my hometown and I got to see them for a while. Any other guys do stuff like this?
Collecting;
Mark Mulder rookies
Chipper Jones rookies
Orlando Cabrera rookies
Lawrence Taylor
Sam Huff
Lavar Arrington
NY Giants
NY Yankees
NJ Nets
NJ Devils
1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards

Looking for Topps rookies as well.

I compiled a fairly decent collection of Bobby Wine cards years ago. He played for the Phillies and later on Montreal in the 60's and early 70's, as well as managed the Braves briefly. I grew up with his nephew and his brother was my coach as a child. I actually gave another of his nephews their first job several yrs. back.

I collect Carl Willey cards and memorabilia. Carl and I have become close friends, and that has just made my collecting his stuff even more fun. I love to bring new items to his house to show him and get the stories that go along with. I just love to listen to his stories, those memories are priceless.

This is a pic of the two of us about a month ago. He signed a photo for me that already had been signed by Spahn, Burdette and Buhl. One of the nicest guys you could ever want to meet, a real gentleman and a friendship I treasure.

  • I collected a wide variety of Natrone Means cards, pictures, articles while he was a player. I played ball against him in HS and he was just a tremendous talent. Did fairly well in his time for the Chargers.

  • ^^Didn't sign a deal with a card company possibly? Heck I like players with tough to get autos.

lawnmower-How rare is that 88 BK? I haven't seen it before, let alone in a BGS gold label.

I collect a certain pitcher, and I'm working on his rookie set right now. I'll postup tonight some pics I have. Right now I gotta teardown a masterbath, ugh.

  • I collect cards of Luke Walker as he was the first major leaguer I ever met. He used to live right next door to my grandmother.

I also collect cards of Melvin Bunch. His claim to fame is in the year that Albert Belle hit 50 HRs he was the pitcher who gave up number 50. He is also the only major leaguer I have had the pleasure of hitting a homerun on. He did eventually become a pretty decent star in Japan.
  • Basically Minnesota natives and ex-U of M Golden Gophers. . . Molitor, Winfield, Jack Morris, along with a lengthy list of NHLers.

I collect all the many "alumni" of Sonoma State U to play pro sports. Let's see there is Larry Allen and um... Freddie Bradley had one card in a Charger's uniform, a couple guys have played in Canada, Ted Popson played there for a couple years before graduating from Portland State and I think that's about the whole list. Only one guy got swings in the big leagues (for the Yankees in the 70's) but no cards. No one has made the NBA (or even gotten close). No hockey players. One guy was rookie of the year in the indoor lacrosse league in the late 90's but I don't think they made any cards. It's a short list so easy collection to master!
  • i collect some dave justice cards...have all his rookies and a few of his inserts. too bad he never really became that all star he was projected to be after his rookie year.

    I collect Chas. Ferguson.

He was a star before he was felled by typhoid fever. But, as he died over 100 years ago, most people do not know him
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • The only time I did this was with Keith Byars, but that did not last too long.

<< <i>Steve, Nice story about Mr Willey. For what team and position did he play? What were his playing years? >>

    Thanks Matt. image

Carl pitched for the Milwaukee Braves from 1958-1962 and the NY Mets from 1963-1965. In a spring training game in 65 against the Tigers, Gates Brown hit him in the jaw with a line drive. He rushed back to quickly and just ruined his arm. He pitched one inning in the 1958 WS against the Yankees, getting all 3 batters he faced out. He was the first Mets pitcher to hit a Grand Slam and he is the only pitcher to face 3 brothers in one inning as he retired all 3 Alou brothers.

He is a super nice guy which makes collecting his items even more fun. image

They were distributed only in central Florida BKs. You will see them every once in a while on ebay but most of them you see are counterfeit. I also have a PSA 10 version to go with the BGS one.

The pop report has a total of 179 graded.

    Beckett has pop of 60.
