Home safes which do you prefer?

I'm having a house built and need to decide if I want a couple of floor safes put in prior to the foundation being poured or would you just use a regular standing safe Thanks for your thoughts---Tom

These are nice, but make sure they are waterproof- a lot of them are not and if you ever have a sump pump fail or a washing machine hose break....
It was back in the early eighties when I wanted to do the same in a new house but I could not find a waterproof (guaranteed) model from anywhere.

Hi Tom, If I was in process of building a house and of course depending on your budget, I would suggest building a combo panic room / safe .... the best door for a panic room is sliding and is not cheap ... probably around 20k ... you can add lots of bells and whistles or if you want to go less expensive build in the basement... tell the contractor you want a wine cellar and you need 1-2 feet concrete, you can add regular safe type doors that run a few thousand and can put a heavy safe behind the vault door... lots of options really depends on budget.... remember anything can get broken into but what you are trying to do is slow down the attempt...good luck...Jon

Good call on the safe door - many major safe manufactueres will sell you just the door, then you can have a "vault" built when the home is built and have a safe built like a bank would have. I'd then suggest a false wall over the safe door - nothing fancy, just functional. Make sure it is electrified inside with a drain if possible for a dehumidifier and ventilation would also be nice.
