Cost to Authenticate Autos on Perez-Steele Great Moments Cards

I've submitted two Perez-Steele Great Moment cards for autograph authentication, but not grading.

Although they are T-3 size, I submitted them as $20 submissions since they are in for authentication, not grading, and aren't T-3 cards, they are Perez-Steele.

This worked in the past, now PSA says I owe $50 each. Anyone else have this experience?

Thanks,
Tom

This must be the result of the new PSA/DNA pricing structure. Who did you submit?

    Tom:

I think that's the price now for cards of that size. Sometimes you can cut a deal if you submit a bunch of them, but I think the price is more to recoup the costs of the oversized holder than anything additional done in the grading process for the Perez-Steele cards.

I thought it was the cost of the specific player authentication plus 10 dollars for encapsulation...wow, if that is the case I will have to look into it...because I have 4 auto'd Greatest Moments that I want to also send in.

I submitted Mantle at $400 value and Rizutto at $100. They really need to be clearer. Last time I submitted a Ford and Berra as $50 for authentication and PSA told me it was only $20 for those cards even though they are T-3 size.

As far as I'm concerned, they should fit in the "lisenced issue" classification, so they don't need to go to PSA/DNA.

The $20 that it use to cost for slabbing a Mickey Mantle autographed card/cut signature/etc is now at least $85. That's $75 for the signature and at least $10 to slab it, depending on the size of the slab.

400% markup in price...not if you can get away with it! image

From what I am reading, any authenticated auto under 50.00 gets only the authentication card unless you pay an extra 10 for the letter. And if you want it slabbed, it's another 10.00.
Any authenticated auto over 50.00 automatically gets slabbed.
    So....
Mantle cost of authentication is 75.00 according to the fee schedule. That should be slabbed at no extra cost.
Rizzuto cost for authentication is 20.00...and if you want it slabbed it would be another 10.00

That's how I am reading the instructions. It doesnt say anything about additional fee for the larger T3 type holder.

If that is the policy, PSA really needs to take the "Autograph Authentication" option off their submission forms and force you to only submit through PSA/DNA, but I thought those fees only applied to unlisenced cards, not Topps, Bowman, etc.

Final Ruling from PSA - $50 each since they are T3 sized.

I am a little confused....what exactly are they charging you 50 bucks for? The authentication or just the slabs?

Which Perez Steele cards are you submitting for authentication? If it's a Billy Herman, the price for authentication is just $20, so you'll be paying $30 for slabbing. It all depends on who you're sending in.

Are you saying you sent in a Mickey Mantle and it was less than $75?

it is $50. I slabbed almost a complete set (I'm still missing 2), and they will work with you on a large order. But the last few stragglers cost me $50. each.
They do look great in the holders though!

$50 for the authentication AND slab? or just 50 for the slab alone? It isnt making sense to me because that isnt what it says on PSA/DNA.

$50 for authentication plus slab for each, Mantle and Rizutto.

These cards went through PSA, not PSA/DNA

Either way, from what I understand it's $50. for anything going into that size holder. It was explained that it was a new tooling for a limited market, and that was the fee they need to charge to offset the costs.
Alternately you can go for GAI's giant plastic case, or wait until Fall for SGC's custom matte holder, which may not be any different in proce. IMO the T3 slab is the best one that PSA offers, and fits the card perfectly.
TKD, are you working on the Great Moments set?

One of my GM that I wanted to send in is already authenticated...are you saying they would charge me 50 bucks just to have it slabbed even though its already authenticated by PSA/DNA???

    Griffins-
I've been slowly acquiring Great Moment cards signed by Yankees. If I have the gumption, I may try to expand beyond that. The cards do look great. Here are the couple I have:

    Yankeeno7-
You may want to call PSA, maybe you can get a break, but if you do I'd be impressed.

I only have 4 Great Moments to submit. I know I wont get a break on those.
Have you been purchasing yours preslabbed or have you submitted all of them yourself? I just dont see enough up for auction and the ones I do are IMO overpriced. Do you have a decent source for pre-authed Great Moments?
Im not doing the set or anything...I just pick up what I can if I like the price. They're one of the best looking autographed items I have in my collection.

Most of the ones I submitted already had some sort of LOA- Spence or PSA/DNA. Didn't change the cost at all.
I bought most of mine raw, but some were bought pre slabbed. That was before PSA hiked the price from 35. to 50. per about January 15th, at $50. each there probably isn't enough profit left in most of them to warrant slabbing them before sale.

I've had good luck buying raw from Dave Dame at Gallery of Full Steps and Mickey's. Both worked with me on lots and every card came back fine from grading.

I've purchased from Dave as well. His prices seem fair and his service is quick.

I agree, at $50 a pop it is expensive to slab them, but they look so damn good that way, especially the pre-war players. That Lefty Gomez is a favorite of mine.

One strategy is to just scour ebay and wait for slabbed versions to come up for auction. Another strategy is to find a lot of autographed cards in a catalogue auction. I've seen many runs with a large number of autographed cards in them. The problem is it is a big chunk of change.

Griffins, those are 6 beauties you have there.

Especially since Willie actually signed a) on his picture and b) in the same pen as everyone else. I guess he must have signed it first...

I do have a slabbed PSA Authentic Charles Gehringer...an original Perez Steele Postcard that I have for trade. I am looking for an Authenticated and slabbed Great Moments of a comparable value...may or may not matter who the player is. If anyone is interesting in a trade then please PM me!
