Just plain stupid. Stuff such as this always reminds me of Jerome Brown. What the below doesn't say is that (if I'm remembering it right) that Brown was driving like 100mph and had his 12 year old nephew or cousin in the car at the time.

Jerome Brown (February 4, 1965 - June 25, 1992) was a former American football player who played defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He was a key player on one of the NFL's top defenses before his life was cut short in a fatal 1992 car accident.

    College career
Born in 1965, Brown played college football at the University of Miami, where he was a standout player. He graduated from the university in 1986.

    NFL career
Brown was a first-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles. During his five-year professional career with the Eagles, he was twice selected to the Pro Bowl (in 1990 and 1991).

    Death
Brown died on June 25, 1992, at the age of 27, following a car accident in Florida, in which both he and his nephew were killed in the crash. Brown was buried in Brooksville, Florida.

Brown's jersey number (#99) was retired posthumously by the Eagles in an emotional pre-game ceremony on September 6, 1992, prior to the Eagles first game of the 1992 season. In honor of Brown, the jersey number will never again be worn by any Eagles player.

  • He will be ready for the season. The accident was not his fault. He wasn't hot-dogging like Winslow. Nobody can say for sure a helmet would have made his injuries less severe.(the weight of the helmet versus the windshield could have broken his neck). He is a grown man, we can't put athletes or anyone in a bubblewrap suit their whole lives. Much adieu about nothing. The benefactor of the timing of the news was the US Soccer team, who laid an egg and got moved to the 2nd page because of an offseason traffic accident. He is a football player!!! Every time he walks on the field he could get carried off on a stretcher. I agree it isn't great judgement to ride a cycle when your body is your meal ticket, but he knew the risks and will be man enough to take responsibility for his actions just like everyone else.
