I need advice on an Ebay transaction

I won an auction, sent a check and have received verification of receipt of check from the seller.

Today I got this in an email:

Dear eBay Member,

Congratulations! You have received a Second Chance Offer on the item titled: --- COMPLETE 1956 TOPPS SET***GAI GRADED CARDS*** ---- for your last bid price of $US $2,559.00.

This seller made you this offer because the winner of the auction is unable to complete this transaction at this time. This transaction will be made through eBay and will be supervised and protected by the eBay Safe Harbor Team with the new Buyer Protection Program offered by eBay. Transactions with this eBay seller are covered by purchase protection against fraud and description error.
If you are interested, please contact the seller by replying to this e-mail.

Thank you.

  • that's a phishing email. don't respond to it.
  • You got a phishing email from another seller--bestseller35, not the guy you actually won the set from. Don't respond to the second chance offer. On a side note, if you notice, the link for your auction was from the Ebay.ph (phillipines) site.

The seller bestseller35 has already been narued.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

the simplest way to see if any message such as that one is real is to go to your "MY EBAY" page and look under "MESSAGES".

Forward the email to EBAY, not that they will look into it, but at least it will have been reported.
  • Dear eBay Member,

That is the key that it is a scam. Ebay will always address you by name or user ID.

It dd not come from the seller either as many buyers are getting these recently on items they do not win.
  • I recently got a fake Paypal email but unlike the previous ones they used my name !!
