not good.. i finally found another qb i liked.. hadn't liked one since joe retired really... but roethlisberger's play style and confidence just blew me away... i for one will be severely bummed out if he can't come back from this........... it's a bad day for the NFL.
If he had been wearing a helmet, he'd still have hurt his knees, but his face would be ok, and he'd just have a headache.
If he was wearing a full face helmet, which he probably would have worn since he was on foreign crap, he probably would have snapped his neck on impact.
I've been riding for 28 years in a helmet law state. The 6 states that border this state all have no helmet laws for the operator. As soon as I cross any border I lose the lid.
Not totally true. Your "freedom" may infringe upon the welfare of countless others.
If you crap out and become an organ donor, it could cost your insurance group or the state a million bucks to keep you alive. That's money that could have been spent for care they deny where someone may have been saved if a CAT scan were done early on instead of waiting/delaying to save money.
Not only that but many vegetative helmet "freedom" riders have they're family on welfare and other forms of aid since they no longer can work and support their family - another possible scenerio.
Freedom in this country comes at a price. The truth is that we all expect people to act responsibly to save us all in many ways - not just with respect to money.
Want total freedom? One would have to either die or move to Mars. JMO and other possible facts.

edit: I changed the last sentence - it was not directed at anyone in particular - this topic comes up all the time with my friends - I want a motorcycle and my wife is dead against it. When I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, their records show that cycle drivers had a 17 times better chance of being involved in an accident.
What the heck is this guy doing on a motorcycle without a helmet. He had to be violating some kind of team or contratcual rule by riding that bike. The Steelers are probably freaking out over this.
When I think of this action coming forth to my favorite teams star player (seattle Seahawks) it would be a very sad day. So I really do feel sorry for "Steeler Nation". I hope Ben will get better and can learn from this experience with a full recovery, maybe he will become a hardened veteran. Gaining life experience and a new outcome on life with a full recovery. He has to good of talent to go to waste like this. However if he is "broken" what a big dissapointment this story is. Still Ben will always be a Super Bowl Champ quarterback. I believe he can have a sucessful Sports T.V. Career and still be a good role model if things are career ending.

Mike, First off let me say that I totally respect you as a person and I think you have one of the greatest minds on these boards. If anyone asked me who my favorite board member was you'd win hands down.
That being said.... are you friggin kidding me? I'm supposed to worry about my Insurance group and my state? That was a joke right. Do you realize how much of my yearly income goes straight to those two? What's next? People who get seriously hurt in car accidents should be liable for their medical bills if they weren't buckled up? Smokers who develope lung cancer should foot the bill? Victims of drive bys should've know better than to be in that neighborhood?
I love ya Mike but I think you're out in left field on this one.
Also, no worries. My family knows what to do if I "become an organ donor." They care about dignity and quality of life though, not the poor Insurance groups or the state. God forbid if we became a burden for them.
I didn't want you to take it so personal - I knew that would be the gamble with my soap box stand - for that I apologize.
First - to be clear - I am not saying people shouldn't ride bikes and I agree, the helmet is a choice.
I was just trying to make the point that we don't do things in a vacuum in our neighborhood - there are consequences to our actions and they do affect other people.
And, in a narrow sense, I can understand your position on big companies and the "state" - but in the big picture - none of them are a bottomless pit and the collective drain is eroding our way of life. All the different ways that money is being spent by the state and federal govt. has been diverted away from our quality of life - our infra-structures like roads and bridges are deteriorating as I type. Sorry for the digression.
This is just a discussion and I value your opinion and was just stating mine. That's why I edited to generalize it more - I would never want to single anyone out.
And BTW, the view from the cheap seats in left field aint too bad.
You'd be sitting in the Monster seats here. (Fenway).
I didn't take it personal. I just can't sympathize with the state or the insurance companies.
I have to watch these damn Geico commercials (save 15%). But I can't save 15% here in Mass. They don't insure Mass drivers. The only other people they won't insure are people with 20 or more DUI's. Great state if you don't drive.
I also can't sympathize with the state (Mass again) who sat back and watched the Big Dig run 14 BILLION dollars over budget. Guess who's footing that bill. In the same 12+ years the project ran Teddy K. and his cronies got their yearly raises and I'm guessing kick back ontop of kickback to turn the other way. The only chance us taxpayers have here in Mass is if Christy Mihos (sp?) or a similar whistle blower wins the next election.
Again, nothing personal but you would have received a lesser response if your choice of victims were different.
JMO backed up by no facts at all. Bob C.
P.S. Mike you're still my favorite poster.
EDIT: Sorry to wizard for highjacking his thread.
Good news: Big Ben to be released from the hospital in 3 to 5 days. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Kansas City Chiefs need all the help they can get!!
lost most of his teeth
fractured his left sinus cavity bone
suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head
suffered a broken jaw
A plastic surgeon was called in.

Wear your helmets boys and girls!

If I were worth that much, I doubt I'd be out on a motorcycle w/ no helmet. Just stupid.
Hell, I don't ride w/o a helmet now and I ain't worth much at all. Atleast I think that's what my wife means when she calls me worthless lol

I do 30 out of my driveway! Why bother.
