How much over SMR should I pay for a 1933 Goudey PSA 8?

This particular 33 Goudey has great centering and bold color. A common not a star card. I would just like to own one of these cards, but don't want to go hog wild on the price. SMR is $400 and seller wants $525. Comments are welcome. No scan will be coming as I don't want one of you nice guys to steal it.

Very few PSA 8s from the set sell for $400, even for commons. I think $525- may be a bit high, but if it is a 'high-end' 8, or a tougher card to find, it may not be a bad deal. If you are overpaying, it is in the $50- range. It's up to you to decide if that is reasonable or not.
<< <i>My advice sir. This is high graded truely old vintage (1933). If you are looking to buy and hold for a long time it is ok to pay a premium over SMR. reasons are your card should never depreciate in price. This means if you have to sell early losses will be minimal or none at all. Reasons being this card should be a great investment that will continue to increase value. This is due to rarity, authenticity(psa 8), and the fact your card is from 1933 common or all-star, I am most certain long term holdings will be very lucrative. Demand will always grow for your card. >>
Interesting analysis, but it sort of ignores the current market, at least to some extent. On Ebay, you could probably score a common PSA 8 and a common PSA 7 from the 1933 Goudey set for the same $525.
player.
- the population in PSA 8 and higher
- the population in PSA 7
- the player himself
- any mitigating factors? PSA 8 cards can be overgraded.
- does anyone in the top 7 in the registry need it? if it is sitting at $525, the probability of that is 0%.
A few PSA 8s in the 1933 Goudey set will regularly go in the $350-$450 range. Most don't - most go higher. However, given that the BIN is $525, that means it is likely a $350-$450 range type of card.

If it is a card i really need, i try not to go over 20% of SMR.
