Trimmed Raw Cards On Ebay...

I've had pretty good success in buying raw cards on Ebay, although most people that I talk to wouldn't dare do it. Any thoughts or stories to share?
There are two types of people in this world; those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don't. My ex-wife loves him!!

  • I never had any come back "trimmed" but they always came back 1 or 2 grades below the "advertised" quality. Where I have had problems is with crossovers sent to PSA. I have done this about a dozen times and without exception, had some type of trimming. I have bought some raw sets and had a few cards trimmed.

I am relatively new to this hobby so I avoid buying raw cards now and focus only on graded PSA cards.

every so often you find something good that others might miss, the catch is you need to spend hours scanning everything on eBay, so much to see.
  • Only advice...

Avoid ANYTHING being sold by Ebay ID: shoeless-joejackson. Him and his many different accounts sell nothing but trimmed cards....well, for the most part anyway. He's a trimmer and a shiller.

    Save yourself the headaches.

If you ever get a package from Kevin Burge (or anything similar)...SEND IT BACK without opening it and request a refund. I am dead serious.

    EB,

Pretty harsh, sounds like you've had some nightmare stories with this individual.

I bought a PSA 10 Shaun Alexander SP rookie from shoeless a few weeks back. The card looks fine. His customer service skills though were extremely lacking.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Personally, no. I research enough that I have been able to avoid any serious damage from thieves online. However, I have been on the other end of hundreds of conversations with people that weren't so fortunate when it comes to Kevin Burge.

EDIT: Do a keyword search of the name (person and Ebay ID) on Beckett and you'll see a small fraction of what I mean.

The only vintage raw cards I buy are old LSU players that I intend to send TTM...and that in itself would keep me from ever trying to cost-cut expensive cards using the raw market. nrmt...always means vg-ex! when a card is listed as excellent, expect a good laugh when it arrives. The worst are the individuals that use nice big scans....because they lull you into believing the card is several grades better than reality.
