NGC Grades back in.......I nailed this submission....

Ok so here is a link you can see my original predictions in this previous thread: (Warning this link takes you to the TCCS website)

Grade Expectations

I was right on with my predictions except for one coin which got a slight bump in grade from what I had originally guestimated so all in all I was very happy with what came back to me image

I sent in two NGC coins for regrades:

image
image

1884-O MS62 came back a 62 as I suspected but it should be reverse holdered so that was the main reason I submitted it. image

image

image

1885-O MS62 came back 63* as I had prognosticated it would and should......I love this coin. Best $42 bucks I ever spent image

image
image

Sent 2 coins in for normal grading:

image

1882-S Morgan bought raw on Ebay....I thought MS64......NGC agreed. Amazing luster on the colorful reverse, but it was noted on the invoice to reverse holder it and they didn't so I'll have to get that corrected...DOH image

image

1876 Dime...thought this one might BB for a small staple scratch that had toned over on the obverse and if it graded...I said AU50....came back AU55 image

Finally sent in one ANACS MS64 1936-D Buffalo Nickel that I expected to come back with the same grade....just wanted it in an NGC holder so I could add it to my Signature set.......NGC said MS64.

So while the coins aren't really worth a whole lot more in their new holders....the submission met and even surpassed my expectations a wee bit image

Killer color on that seated dime.

Shane, why would you bother to spend the $ to have such coins graded?

I had 5 free early birds submissions from NGC for using my set to promote the Signature set concept so it only cost me $15 bucks shipping image

The Dime and Buffalo nickel I need for my Signature set as I am trying for a complete toned type set........the 84-O and 85-O's were sent in becuase they were in old NGC fatty holders and where continuing to tone so this gave me a chance to reverse holder the MS62 that I knew would not upgrade plus get the 85-O into the proper graded holder. Finally the 1882-S was simply a raw coin purchase so since I got it off Ebay cheap and I needed that date for my toned Morgan set......what the heck. This was not a money making endevor for me though I guess a few of the coins are certainly more marketable if I ever decide to sell now that they are holdered. image

Fair enough, even if the coins speak for themselves.image

Mark, that brings to mind.... If any were a rare coin or higher grade, what is the benefit of NGC over PCGS ?
I am an ANA member, and the only thing I wish is that David and Bill would say to each other... lets tweak our stuff so the boxes and slabs fit each others.
If ford, gm and chrysler were a little more capable of that thinking, Japan wouldn't own the car industry.

It doesn't take much to make me happy.

I really think you should have kept the 84-O in the old NGC fatty - particularly since you didn't think it would upgrade (and you were right) - it was worth more in the old holder.

While I don't doubt you right with all of the energy around older holders.........I didn't want to take a chance on the reverse colors going south on me since the coin was continuing to tone because of the holder itself and no seperation from the paper insert. I know that's probably not news to you but in this case I chose the lesser of two evils understanding that the color on this coin will always leave it marketable.
