local card show today had TWO PSA 9 Mantles 55 bowman and 59 topps and both were fake

the guy had cracked cases, copied real cert #'s and put FAKE mantles in the holders. What is so crazy several idiots thought they were real.

I know we is a con man because he told me I bought them at the National and he had a MJ rookie graded by ags?

He had a fake goudey Ruth and a few fleer bonds rookies

His table consisted of 80% fake items(easlily detected fakes)

What was so damn funny was the 55 was a copy and had a nick on the edge!LMFAO! Probably a PSA 7 fake copy of a card

The flips were not real as well(copies).

However, the cases didnt look bad at all(that scares me).

what would you do????

Should I say something to the fraud at the next show!

You should tell the show promoter if you feel inclined to say something. If the show promoter knows anything about cards, he should be able to make a judgment as to what to do with the dealer. The dealer must be a complete idiot, usually that crap only gets sold on eBay where he doesn't need to have the face to face interaction... he runs the risk of selling a card to someone who then goes to the police and they can charge him with fraud.

    I agree with Josh.

If you see something you think is totally fake, ask for the promoter - the problem is the guy could be his

    brother-in-law!

Yet another reason that shows hold less and less interest for collectors.

Throw in the overpriced raw cards, the same picked over garbage, and unfriendly dealers and you have the main reasons so few people actually go to shows anymore.

Potentially add shops to the list...

I just had a flashback - I'm visiting family in San Antonio - 1992 - me and my son walk into a shop called Stats on Nacodoches Rd.

I ask the guy if he has any Palmer RC's? Without as much as an acknowlegement he reaches over and tosses a few toploaders at me and walks away. Me and my son look at each other and without saying a word, abandon the cards and walk out of the store. NEVER to return.

The amount of rude, "oversized", slovenly, partially endentulous sellers at shows are too numerous to count.

The last "show" I was at was two months ago. The difference between collectors and dealers in and around this forum and others that I frequent and the type who I find at these shows is GLARING. And NOT becuase of deep pockets or cheap pockets. Just a MUCH different crowd. Shows are doomed!

  • I agree that most shows are really disappointing, although if it's close, you don't have much to lose by going to one. The most disappointing may be the national since many people spend good money to travel there only to realize everything is more expensive than if they just stayed at home and bid on ebay.

I've really only been to one card show (although I have gone about 4 or 5 times to this particular show)

Basically, 3 dealers stick out to me: 2 are very nice and will talk to you all day (maybe even too long) and one was really brash, rude, and overpriced all his stuff (and it's always the same stuff??)

So I guess I'm doing well.
