I would expect a bump in grade for the color, so my guess is MS65, despite the weakness in strike (not wear).
Either way, considering the wonderful color and (questionable sanity of) the buyer, I would surmise that it brought multiples of 65 "bid", even if it graded less than that. My guess is that it traded for $1100, or approximately MS66 $, regardless of the assigned grade.
<< <i>what would you have paid for this Mint State Walker? >>
I probably would have paid approximately $500 if it grades MS64 and $750 if it grades MS65.
Edited to add: MS64 bid is $116 and MS65 bid is $355. I am quite confident that Oreville's "Possibly as much as 10% over published standard values..." wont buy it.
What ever you paid for it, it was too much. My recommendation to you is to dump it a.s.a.p. and where better to dump a coin like that??? ...Just send it to me and I'll dispose of it properly for you. Oh did I forget to mention... coin Dick!
Interesting answers not about the grade but rather the eye appeal and the value. This to me is perhaps one of the prettiest Walkers I have handled. Its very interesting to hear the comments on eye appeal. For those of you that are curious I paid in the $700.00 range. Thank you so much for your imput.
I don't think you are burried in that coin at all Dick......it looks fantastic and I personally feel the vibrant colors make for some spectacular eye appeal. I am actually pleased to hear the comments of some as far as a dislike for the toning..............I don't need anymore bidders out there going after the same coins I like so if their are folks that don't like the color on this one....God Bless them
MrD: The picture of the 1940-S half in the slab makes the coin look lighter in appearance than the larger pics. I am sure most of those who did not like the original pics becasue they felt it was too dark and too mottled will be less negative in their opinion than before.
You did fine. I also believe PCGS would cross grade this one if you ever wanted to but in this scenario who cares?

Nice one
The mottled toning is breathtaking to me but might be too mottled and too dark for others.
Would I have paid much of a premium for this one? Possibly as much as 10% over published standard values for this coin in MS-64.
Subject to the necessary in-person inspection to confirm.
Either way, considering the wonderful color and (questionable sanity of) the buyer

That would have brought the numbers to around $230.
You are probably right. I would most likely be outbid.
Price wise? If you paid anything less than $1,500. you stole the coin IMHO.

Dick, you ARE crazy. Please don't let my feedback lead you to believe otherwise.
My 1866 Philly Mint Set
Without seeing the coin in hand, it looks really nice. My guess is more than 66$$$ what ever that is.
