Grade My Cards ... please

It's been a couple of weeks so I figured it was time to put you guys to use. image About 10 years ago, when Teletrade was the deal, I picked up a couple of 1968 cards (Aaron and Carew) for about $40 for the pair. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to the catalog and what I thought were PSA graded cards were in fact CSA graded cards. I still have them and was getting ready to crossover, but I figured I would check with you guys to see what you thought they would grade out to. I'm not sure how to post the pics, but I included attachments of the front/backs of the two cards.

Thanks

Both will come back as trimmed! image

I've has mixed success with old (red flip) CSA cards. Here is your best bet. Make a really high resolution scan of each, in their holders. Using an image editing software, get an exact measurement of each. It doesn't matter if the scan is blown up larger than life or not (I prefer it to be huge). The measurement isn't what's important though - it's the right angles and the RATIO of length to width (divide them). Do the same with a card you know is not trimmed - i.e. a new card. If the ratio is the same, then the card is untrimmed. I'd go out three decimal points.

Even though you only paid $40, you will be down $55 by the time that they are graded (if trimmed). I've got two (edit: red flip) CSA 8.5 T206's that came back from SGC as trimmed, so I've learned my lesson. Only crack them out after the scan/ratio test.

Mike, I will try your method this afternoon when I get a moment, but I took a 1968 card I know is not trimmed and lined it up on the outside of the CSA holders with the card inside and they line up perfectly. Assuming (hopefully) neither the Aaron or Carew are trimmed, what do you guys think they will crossover too? Do you think I should crack them out before I submit them?

    Thanks

You won't be able to tell if they're trimmed by just lining them up; you're going to have to crack them and send them in to a reputable grading company. Unfortunately there just isn't any other alternative. If they aren't trimmed, then they should come back at least 1 grade lower than the CSA grade (and maybe more).
