Questions about reholdering cards

I am thinking about sending in some cards to be reholdered due to tape residue and scratches on the back of the cases. When you send in to be reholdered to SGC and PSA, do they insert a new label or do they insert the old label? The old SGC inserts do not include a 10 scale grade, whereas the new ones do...I like that. Also, older PSA labels have a different font than the newer ones. Do they use same serial numbers? Also, does anyone have any thoughts about reholdering to get a different label inserted?

Did you try goo gone or nail polish remover to clean these cases up?
Reholdering should be used as a lost resort.
Sorry can't answer the SGC part but i would assume they keep the same cert number as well and just give the numerical grade as well
also PSA has a VG/EX card that is a 3 so I am not sure if that would be downgraded or not. A 3 is now a staright G card, but at one time certain 3's got the VG/EX designation.
what do you mean by the last question? Are you meaning crossover? from PSA to SGC? or vice versa?

if you like the card and plan on keeping it and it's a valuable card, i'd go ahead and have it reholdered..
I believe that SGC will not reholder the cards to the split numbers without reviewing the card first. So if you have an SGC 96 as the only number on the flip they will not automatically put the card in an SGC 96/9 flip holder.
<< <i>Some buyers do not like the old style PSA label with the 0 cert numbers. If you have an expensive card it might be worth your while to get it reholdered.

Wha? So SGC basically said 'our old standards were too loose, so we're not going to honor the grades on our old slabs?'
I think the cert number stays the same. Aro do you mean the font will change?

My understanding is that it will be the newer font, and have the newer label without the hologram on the back, but the cert # is the same.
I actually stay away from newer style holders with "0" certs. I interpret it as they had something to possibly hide, and it means the card has been handled more (i.e., when reholdering they aren’t regrading so if they ding a corner, etc. they may not notice/care)
<< <i>old holders hold same value! take a 52 mantle, new holder , old holder it makes no difference! buyers say this to down grade card what a bunch of clowns! dont fall for this @#%*. >>
Have you ever made a post without mentioning 52 mantle???? Do you know that other cards exist?

No, but they are professional enough to review "all" cards before they are reholdered and will pay you money if they were overgraded in the beginning. I personally would cross the old SGC flips to the new. The old flips for the majority do not get downgraded in price, but on ocassion they do.
<< <i>Jeff do you own any mantles? more than glad to talk to you about any cards! >>
I do and I will own a 52 topps mantle. Was just busting your balls a little since you seem to have an unhealthy love for the 52 topps mantle but then again who could blame you.

So if you have, say, an SGC 96 with the new flip, and the holder gets dinged up (but the card is undamaged), SGC is going to regrade the card before they put it in a new holder for you?

Cards on regrade or reholder service: SGC has the right to reevaluate the card and assign a newly established grade if SGC believes the card was originally misgraded. If the grade change results in a loss of value of the card, SGC will compensate the customer based upon market value as solely determined by SGC.
No other company is this stand up!

LOL. That's the first thing I thought too-- how wonderful it would be to have a '57 Aaron in an SGC 96 holder fall off the shelf and incur a spider crack through the middle of the slab, then getting the card back from SGC in an 88 holder with a travel tube of Vaseline and a check for an amount that SGC-- without your imput, might I add-- has decided is the value discrepancy between the two grades. You usually only see that kind of 'service' in a horse stall with a horny stallion and a willing mare, although hey! I guess there's no reason it can't extend to the sports card world as well.
