a question about registry sets

Once a desired series is put together, is your objective to upgrade and try to get the best of each year, or do you just relax and say "ahhhh, that was fun, next series" ...or did you burn out and sell it already ? ... or did you even start on one ? or is it so extensive you will go to your grave having it incomplete ?

I think I'd be happy just to have a complete set no matter where it ranked. That would be an accomplishment.
I'm close with the Sacagaweas, and then the $5 Gold Indians... Those two are my driving force in numismatics. (mostly cuz they are short series and they have a few UNATTAINABLE pieces that help me keep the fire burning and dreaming)

Please keep this post alive like the GOLD and SILVER thread. At least until I get the MS61 1929 and 1909 O Gold Pieces..... along with the Goodacre and Millenium pieces in MS67.

P.S. I own PCGS graded coins, they are not in the registry program.

Upgrade rather than start a new series.

Yes. But, alas I am poor and any upgrades for my little set are VERY expensive and rarely become available.

Steve, primarily the reason I never entered into a registry program was that my intention was just to collect them, protect them and add value to them. Also, I wanted to test my skills at grading, so I joined and started sending dozens of coins in. From new to old, proofs on down.
I'm contemplating some gold commemoratives and platinum proofs for submission, but this was never for a registry game for me, rather protecting and hopefully adding value via a trusted source of skilled numismatists putting them into plastic and assigning a proper grade. I will say I've been humbled, and yet, I've learned a great deal of what to look for . I was just wondering how those who do the registry set game approach it.
I have multiples of the same coins, too. I think that would look wierd in a registry set .

    edit to add:
This collection has been a labor of love for me. It is not the finest set out there, but to me, it is complete to date and it is mine. I love it. Steve

<-----humbled once again. I just read about your set. That is cool ! Very cool. Thanks for the opportunity to see what I've not been reading on this website, like a million other things.

For me I have completed a couple of rather large sets. It's now trying to find the right coin at the right price for the upgrades.
And like you I am now looking at some of the smallers sets (mint sets) and trying for top 5 on them. Started with my and the kids birth years now thowing in some odd years that catch my eye.

    Yes...three times.

Yes....for two of them now. One other set will be completed by this time next year or sooner.

Actually I guess I am not real serious about registry sets now. Its just something to do.
