Grade opinions for a rare 1968 D DDR Cent

What will this grade? This BU cent had a rough ride in some rolling machine in its early life. What effect does this have on the grade?

The crying shame is that this is the 1968 D FS 1c-027.4 DDR I found - a very nice and hard-to-find DDR. I want to have it slabbed so that it is at least authenticated by a grading company. But what will they do with the grade? Will PCGS 'body bag' this? What is my best option... ANACS, NGC, or PCGS?

If the obverse was as nice as the reverse, it would go to PCGS all the way. But given its unfortunate obverse damage, I'm not sure what I should do.

  • PCGS & NGC would bag it for the damage. I don't think Anacs gives "net" grades anymore, but they would probably grade it as MS-60 Red "Counting wheel damage" in their new classic sized holder. Nice DDR, too bad about the damage.

Too bad it was a roll-end coin. I'd personally give it a 61RD and describe the damage when selling...but none of the services will put it in a slab other than ANACS, who will certify it as "genuine" without grading it if you ask them to.
