you have a very nice eye for buying vintage raw
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Help a me understand (still a virgin when it comes to this) From just the scans and your naked eyes. What is so different from the Yaz PSA 5 and the McCovey PSA 6? They do not look that far off from the 7's or 8's.

    Thanks

    Superb Paleo!

The 69 Banks and the 68 Kaline are sweet!

Great eye! I would be very happy with those results.

I assume those are all sets you are working on?

    thanx for sharing

Well a scan will only show so much and the small differences will only be seen with the naked eye or under magnification. As he said he must have missed a small surface wrinkle on the Yaz which will automatically drop it down to a 5.

Slats - As BrianWinters said, a surface wrinkle automatically maxes a card out at EX 5. I still can't find it on the Yaz but I defer to the graders at PSA. The McCovey looks fine in the scan, but under magnifcation, the corners are more worn than the other cards I submitted. I was hoping it would slide into a "7" holder, but to be honest it deserves a "6". With scans the resolution I posted, it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between centered 7s and 8s -- you really need magnification and a strong light source.

mikeschmidt and Stone -- thanks for the kind words.

Nice submission, I know you are pleased with the results and turn-around-time. I'm working on my 7th submission, about 1 a week. All told, it will total about 500 cards.
