Help! Ship on unconfirmed Paypal address?

I just sold a 1969 Topps Robert Clemente PSA 8 on Ebay. The buyer paid with an unconfirmed address. I have been burned one other time a couple of years ago. How does one make their address "confirmed"? Will it take effect if he has already paid? Will I have to refund the money, and THEN the buyer have to repay with a confirmed address for the seller protection to take effect?

Help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Shane

it doesn't matter how you send it....if you get shafted, paypal will not cover you.

The simple way to prevent this is to go into your paypal preferences and select the option to NOT let Unconfirmed people pay with paypal.

Does that satisfy the PayPal "seller protection" policy, if the
    addy is not confirmed?

My read of the policy is that the seller is shafted, if a chargeback
is requested under the described circumstances. Maybe I am
    not reading the policy correctly.

  • I would not ship!

Contact the buyer and inform him/her that you ONLY ship to confirmed addresses. Ask them to please follow the steps required by PayPal to confirm their address. Once they do, you will gladly ship them their card. Otherwise, you will have to refund their payment.

Then see what they say...any honest person will have no problem with your request.
  • how long has the buyer been on ebay, and what's his feedback? if it looks ok, i say send the card.. but get insurance to cover your backside just in case.. you might also request their info and call them beforehand to head off any problems.. insurance for $100 gets the same handling and security as insurance for $10000 also... a way you can save a buck or two and still get safe, confirmed delivery IF THE BUYER IS NOT SHADY...

    I just did that.

I also sent him an email.

Will I have to refund the money and him resend the payment for this to work?

    I say "DO NOT SHIP."

The USPS insurance will not help you, if somebody has paid
with a stolen credit card or bank account.

I reread the PayPal "seller protection" policy, and it seems
CLEAR that you would not be protected no matter what
kind of paperwork you have from the USPS.

It could take your buyer a few days to complete the "confirmed"
process using a bank account, or maybe it can be done much faster
    with a credit card.

  • If you did not state in your listing that you will not ship to unconfirmed address through Paypal the buyer can file a NSS on you if you refuse the payment. I had that question before 3 different live help employees and got the same answer. It is true that Paypal will not protect you if something goes bad, but you don't have much more otherwise.

Paypal will not protect you if they get it and say it is not as described and send you back a rock, regardless of if the address is confirmed or not.

Never take Paypal for more than you can afford to lose.(better yet just don't take it)

I would ship the item with at least DC and insurance. I never had any problems when I did take paypal from unconfirmed addresses.
  • i still don't understand how you can get "screwed" if you remove money from your paypal account to your bank account asap, you'd have a $0.00 balance and nothing for paypal to "take-back".

Here is what I say at the bottom of every listing that I have on Ebay:

I ACCEPT PAYPAL WITH CONFIRMED ADDRESS, MONEY ORDERS, or CASHIER'S CHECK. INSURANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ITEMS THAT GO OVER $100. PLEASE SEND PAYMENT TO.........

Can they either take money from you bank account or credit card OR hold money as soon as you get your next payment?

    Shane

  • They cannot take money from your bank account, but your Paypal account can look like mine does -381.00. which is what was left after they screwed me over.

Sad thing is their reps have admitted they were overzealous and should have eaten that intead of going back after the sellers he bought from, but that they could do nothing to fix the problem.

    Ouch

    Shane

Then you are covered under that instance and you need to point that out in your listing to the buyer. If they refuse to buy file a UPI using the unwelcome bidder choice.
  • Ouch is right so before I can recieve any money I have to pay that 381.00 first. Any payment I recieve will go into that lowering the balance.
  • Wizardsguildcards, thanks for clearing that up. So with a $0.00 balance they cannot take money from you, but effectively, you can no longer use paypal - buying or selling.
  • i was under the impression they could suck it out of your bank account.. glad that's not the case.. either that or they send over the guys in the black van to rough you up and take your cards
  • They used to be able to take it out of your account, but that lawsuit they lost in 2003 part of the settlement was that they were no longer allowed to do that.

However if I were to try to use my bank account or CC to fund a payment of say 5.00, I would effectively give them permission to do just that and they would charge my account 386.00.

  • PLEASE DO NOT SHIP TO UN CONFIRMED ADDRESS!
  • The bottom line.....
NEVER EVER SHIP TO A UNCONFIRMED ADDRESS!
