Has anyone evered opened a set and star card was missing?

Yesterday I opened a 1987 Fleer Glossy tin set and was upset when I found there was no Barry Bonds rookie in it. I went through all 660+ cards four times and it was not present. I was trying to come up with a few more cards worthy of grading to send to PSA for the 5$ special. The set had the shrink wrapping on it and did not appear to be tampered with although there was a couple of holes in it. It was an item purchased on eBay and the seller had 99%+ positive feeback. I guess it could be a factory screw up. Has anyone ever experienced this? I hate pissing away almost $50.

  • i doubt a factory screw up....what were the chances they would leave one card out and it owuld be that one?

Didnt the shrink wrap from those sets have fleer printed on them? I am not sure but it seems like it did.

  • I'd be posting some SERIOUS negative feedback right about now.
  • yep shrink wrappers are cheap.. they could have plucked the bonds, shrink wrapped the box, and re-sold it hoping someone wouldn't bust it open for years..... or at least until the feedback window has closed.. that's pretty ballsy of someone

This is too suspicious to rule out as a factory mistake. I'd contact the seller to see what his reaction is.

You heard wrong. I personally have never left one for a bad transaction. I did leave 1, in the past 5 years, for being neg'd by a loser shill seller. Thanks for playing, come again.
  • Well, you guys were right apparently. I just went through his feedback and someone else complained of the same thing. They purchased a set and it was missing 10 cards including the Griffey.
  • please post the ebay user id of this scumbag...
  • also, get his info, call him, tell him he's a punk and demand a refund including shipping or threaten to bring down a world of sh*t on him...
  • i'm sorry to post 3 in a row but i keep getting madder.. i mean wtf? we have to eat our busted sets but he gets to re-sell his and rip people off?? what was he thinking??

EB Ihave a question, the other day you claimed you had a feedback score of 7 and would make a new name to avoid getting a neg. In 5 years you have had how many names? or was the 7 feedback your only name? Not trying to pry but in the 2 threads you created this week you gave me the impression you were an ebay newbie.

    Good for you.

I have opened up "sealed" factory sets and found cards missing from time to time, but usually not the keys.

A while back, I opened up an "unopened" set of 1988 Score Traded and found the Chris Sabo missing. All the other cards were still there, so either this was a factory mistake, or someone tampered with the box in 1988.

No, not a newbie at all. I have had no more than 2 ID's at any given time. I've had my main ID since '99. My "alternate" ID changes often.

I've been collecting cards for over 20 years, so I am not really new at any of this. I just change my focus often....and usually to something I want to learn about and collect temporarily.
