Good to see the Royals winning lately -- hopefully they are out of danger of setting any loss records.
I checked average attendance figures and see they are averaging about 18,000. That's pretty decent support for a last place team -- probably better than the Marlins got when they were winning!!
^^ A salary minimum is needed as well. It's been used successfully in the NFL to create competitive balance. If you have a cap, you need a minimum otherwise the cheap owners will just continue to line their pockets.

Royals trade Elmer Dessens to the Dodgers for Odalis Perez and two prospects. I get the feeling the trade was for the prospects and Perez was just a throw in. I don't see him sticking around here long though.
Definitely disagree KCball - Odalis cut his teeth in the Braves system, where dayton Moore knows him from....I'm a huge change in scenery guy.....just what this guy needs. He will immediately head into the starting lineup.
In 2 days, our new GM has unloaded a guy who has thrown a total of 4 innings for the Royals this year, and a guy who is a moderate middle-inning guy....nothing that was going to be around KC for the long-term.
Those 2 guys for a potential 12-15 game winner (as of last year), and 4 minor league pitchers, 3 of whom most scouts say will have a definite impact in the major-leagues 1-3 years from now.
Good point about Perez. I forgot he was a Moore guy. If he does stick around he has definitely had some good seasons. Perhaps the veteran leader for the pitching staff.
Also, remember Moore's assistant, (can't remember his name, from the Reds), also worked under Moore in Atlanta....he also knows Perez..........still, you have the Dodgers paying ALL of Odalis' salary next year, 9 mil, and the Royals will pay Dessens salary, 1 mil....they basically paid the Royals 8 mil to take Perez!!!....plus some minor league guys.
