help identifying this coin

Hello everone,
i created a thread over in the US coins forum looking for identification of a few (what i thought were colonial age coins), most have been identified if you would care to see them, the thread can be found here: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=510024

On this perticular coin, i was advised to repost in this forum to see if anyone here had an idea.

Which weighs more, a pound of wheat pennies, or a pound of Roosevelt dimes?

Looks like the remains of a Charles I or II Shilling(?) from England minted in the 1600s.

Weight and diameter could probably help pin it down exactly, but in that condition, it wouldn't much matter.

It might be an GB/Irish coin assuming that the symbol in
the lower left quadrant is a lyre. (sp?)

It's from Charles I (1625-49) of England. Not sure if it's a Shilling or Halfcrown.
  • How would one tell the difference between a shilling and a half crown?
