Thinking of Opening a E-bay store

I Know there have been several people ask about E-bay stores on the board. And from what I have read from past threads It looks like most people do fairly well with them.
I have a few questions about them :

The 2 cent listing fee, Does that cover just a basic listing or can you post a few pics?
Does the 2 cent listing fee cover other auctions; or all auctions, or is it just good for your store only?

When I looked into it E-bay said my user id was too long for a store name and that I would have to come up with another name for my store, Will I still be tied together with my user id?

If I do have to rename my store I thought about running a Name my E-bay Store contest on the board, With A small prize for the best name.

Thanks !

  • Two cent listings are nice. Believe it only includes one regular-sized eBay photo. Extra penny for all the bells and whistles.

Good idea. Nice getting to work and having emails for sold store items.

Store is connected to your regular account. Represented by a little red door. Very easy to use. I believe they had/have a free 30-day trial. Can't go wrong. Happy FeeBaying!

p.s. Shouldn't you be working Tennessee!?

I also think stores are a very good idea, particularly if you have alot of inventory to move. You can't beat the 2 cent listing fee. This does only include store listings and as long as you initially set your store items up as "good til cancelled", the items will automatically renew for 2 cent after 30 days. I got into bookselling about a year ago and had listed quite a few in my store and had pretty good luck with it. I've had to take several months off from selling on eBay and have not been able to get much in my store but for ~$15.00/month for a basic store, it's tough to beat.

So if I wanted to list items under my first id for auction it wouldnt be 2 cents ?

Are all E-bay store items buy it now?

Yeah, you would still have normal fees for auction items. Also, the commission of store items sold is a bit higher (8% as opposed to 6% for auctions). Also, store items will not show up in a regular search unless there are only a certain number of auction items that match (30 maybe?). So, a store is really a good place for things that aren't very common. I certainly wouldn't dump '83 Gwynn or Boggs rookies on there since they wouldn't show up in the search.

Yes, all store items are buy it now although you can put a feature on a listing so that a potential buyer could make a "best offer." I've sold a few things that way where I had a fairly rare item and jacked the price up. I got a "best offer" that was basically what I wanted so I accepted it.
  • I've switched to html for pictures which is very cool, especially for your higher-dollar items.

Blow your pictures up to huge sizes, etc. Plus, you don't have to pay for the supersized photos and can include as many as you wish. Seem to sell much better, too.

I am very technologically challenged, but jimq helped me through the process. If you'd like to learn, I could attempt to pass along his knowledge.

If you do a "regular listing" auction, you are charged the "regular lising" fees. When you created the listing, you are asked if you want to list it as a store item or not.

The ebay store is tricky. $15 monthly fee and 8 or so percent commission can get pretty high in price. You can get your own "small business" website through Yahoo for about $9 a month. If your intent is to get rid of "slow" movers, you might try Yahoo auctions, they have no fees whatsoever. As mentioned earlier, I think the ebay store does mave a free 30 day trial. As such, it is worth a shot.

Nj, I think my scanner gives me the capability of zooming in and scanning and saving big pics. Is that what your are referring to? And would that work with E-bays picture system ?

  • I just opened my store and I agree with all above it's great. One whole sale in two days. But then again I'm not moving high dollar stuff anyway.

I find eBay Store helpful for moving items not well suited to Auctions or shorter duration Fixed Price listings. You can list regional and odd-ball cards and let them sit there for only 2 cents a month. I have had mixed to low success selling my signed cards using the regular channels, but they sell quite well through the eBay store. As another poster said in another thread, you get surprised what some people will buy.

My suggestions for listing in Stores:

Odd ball items with limited appeal
    Low priced items
    Graded commons
    Odd ball memorabilia

In addition, if you use the Best Offer feature, you can price things high if unsure of what they will sell for, and see what kind of offers you get.

If used right, Stores can be a very valuable sales channel.
