Mgoodm3 I need help!! IHC Proof pics *pics inside*

I am venturing into uncharted lands here, and having a difficult time capturing the color *and* luster on Proof IHC in holders. How do you do it so well on yours...

Here is what I have so far... this was take when the coin tilted at an angle towards the light source with a shade to diffuse the light some. When trying to allow light in, the glare from the holder makes it where you cant see the coin. Help!!

The coin is hands down beautiful... I just want to take a very accurate photograph of it..

I just did a quick levels adjustment. Really what needs to be adjusted with a picture like this is the "black level" and a little bump in contrast. Increasing contrast can also help get rid of the glare.

You did a good job making the glare even. The more even it is, the easier it is to get rid of. You may want to underexpose the pic a little also. That will help make the adjustment easier.

I did that with the contrast in photoshop I was just trying to get the most accurate photo I can from the camera first...

Most of your coins are taken raw? Correct?

Color on the mirrors is a pain, slabbed. There is only one way to avoid glare that I know of. If the coin is tilted enough inside of the slab, you can bring thelightin from the side of the tilt and the mirrors will pick up the light before the slab does. not many coins are tilted enough to allow that. the coin below is one the few that I have.

Last one ain't bad. The glare is a tad uneven. The key is to diffuse the light as much as possible. I use a fairly thick piece of plastic between the light and the coin to diffuse it.

One trick I use frequently is to set the timer on the camera, then physically hold the lights above and slightly behind the camera body, back it up just far enought that the shadow cast by the camera body is not sharp (diffused). Get the diffused edge of the shadow over the coin. You might have to use a slightly longer exposure, but it works very well for some toners.

Can you give us an example of what you are talking about? Is it an opaque plastic? Thanks

It's an opaque white piece of plastic about 1/8" thick that came out of a small lightbox. I don't use this for normal diffusion duty for pictures but for this purpose it works well.
